After the end of Carnival Row season 1, I thought I’d heard there’d be a season 2, but…then it never happened. I feared it went the way of other Amazon original series I’ve enjoyed. Meaning, canceled after one season, such as Truth Seekers and Night Sky. (As far as shows on the paranormal spectrum. There have been others in different genres that also got canned too early IMO.)
Anyway, when Carnival Row season 2 never materialized, I gave up hope. Granted, there was the whole pandemic and all. That screwed up a lot of filming schedules, which according to Paste, was the case with Carnival Row. They were amidst filming the second season when the pandemic hit and put a kibosh on everything.
That’s why it took so long for it to come out. It was a year before filming resumed. Then there was post-production and all of that.
But now, after four long years, the wait is over. The first two episodes dropped on Prime Video on Friday, February 17. (Well, as Decider explained, technically, new episodes tend to drop on Amazon Prime at 12 a.m. GMT. Which meant U.S. Prime Video watchers got to watch the first two new Carnival Row episodes at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, February 16.)
However, as good of news as it is that season 2 is here, there’s also bad news. This it is. It’s Carnival Row‘s final season. Which won’t be so bad as long as they wrap everything up and don’t leave us with any dangling storylines. Which, according to Meghan O’Keefe from Decider, won’t happen. It apparently “neatly wraps up the characters’ stories,” so it won’t end with any cliffhangers.
Fingers crossed that’s true. We’ll find out as the rest of the episodes drop.
Carnival Row Season 2 Storyline
In a fantasy world where humans and creatures clash, season 2 of Carnival Row picks up with former inspector Rycroft Philostrate a.k.a. Philo (Orlando Bloom) investigating a series of gruesome murders stoking social tension.
Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) and the Black Raven plot payback for the unjust oppression inflicted by The Burgue’s human leaders, Jonah Breakspear (Arty Froushan) and Sophie Longerbane (Caroline Ford).
Tourmaline (Karla Crome) inherits supernatural powers that threaten her fate and the future of The Row. And, after escaping The Burgue and her vengeful brother Ezra (Andrew Gower), Imogen Spurnrose (Tamzin Merchant) and her partner Agreus Astrayon (David Gyasi) encounter a radical new society which upends their plans.
With humans and fae folk divided and freedom on the line, each hero will face impossible dilemmas and soul-defining tests in the epic conclusion of Carnival Row.

Check-In
Human or critch (be it fae or faun, werewolf or kobold): who is/are your favorite Carnival Row character/s?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I had forgotten all about this show! The hubster and I both liked the fae.:-)
I had forgotten too…and given up hope there’d be a season too so this was such a surprise. And the fae…the wings on the characters are THE coolest of any in any show featured winged beings. I love them too!!!
This show needed five seasons. This show was not made for two seasons. It’s too deep and involved, which means that everything is probably going to be rushed and full of folly.
I wouldn’t have minded five seasons. Or even three. I’m hoping they don’t rush anything. So far they’re not and I’m trying to figure out how they’ll wrap it all up without it being rushed like you said.
