Would you eat barbecue and stay at the gas station that was in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
“I don’t know. Would I? Probably. What does that say about me? Why do such sick things thrill me?” That’s what ran through my head when I spotted an article about the gas station from Wide Open Country on a friend’s Facebook page.
Of course having a chance to eat and stay there piqued my interest. I think my horror movie lovers card would be revoked if it didn’t! It’s among the classic slasher films. Why wouldn’t I want to experience some of that history in such a novel way?
The Gas Station
That’s what it’s really called. Just simply, The Gas Station.
Their motto? “We Slaughter Barbecue.”
Disturbing, but clever. Not to mention catchy.
Their menu is pretty limited, because it consists of primarily of brisket, chopped beef, and sausage. For sides you have a choice of the standard BBQ staples: beans, potato salad and coleslaw.
The reviews on its Facebook page (many of which are glowing) rave about the brisket, though –and also about their ghost pepper sauce.
The Cabins
They look really cute. There are four in total. Two have a King bed with a Twin sleeper chair, and the other two have a Queen bed and a Full.
Each cabin is equipped with electricity, heat, A/C, a ceiling fan, a 43″ TV, DVD player and free Wi-Fi.
But this is glamping since the cabins don’t come with private bathrooms. You get a code to use to access the restrooms and showers.
As you might imagine, these puppies fill up quick and often so you need to book far in advance.

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
The original TCM was one of my most favorite, yet scariest movies ever.
Agreed! I loved the original.
