Do you like survival thrillers? Did you ever see a movie called Black Water about a crocodile that terrorized a trio on a boat tour in a mangrove swamp in Australia? It was released in 2008, and while it wasn’t great, it wasn’t too bad either. Well, it took a while, but now there’s a sequel to that movie, Black Water: Abyss.
It’s one of the exclusive movies on Crackle’s January 2021 lineup. It launches for free on the streaming service on Thursday, January 21.
“We’re thrilled to add Black Water: Abyss to Crackle’s slate of exclusive programming,” said Philippe Guelton, president of Crackle Plus. “It’s an intense, suspenseful film that will keep our viewers on the edge of their seats.”
Black Water was directed by both David Nerlich and Andrew Traucki. Just Traucki (who also directed The Reef) directs the sequel. Let’s take a closer look at what it’s all about.
Black Water: Abyss Storyline
Deep in the forests of Australia, a group of thrill-seeking friends set out to explore a remote cave system when a tropical storm hits. Once underground, the storm floods the caves and they find themselves trapped in an underground pool deep below the surface, cut off from the outside world.
As the floodwaters begin to rise, the adventurers quickly discover they’re not alone when something even deadlier emerges from the darkness –killer crocodiles. Fighting for survival, the friends frantically try to escape the crocs. Will they succeed?
Cast
Black Water: Abyss stars Jessica McNamee (The Meg), Luke Mitchell (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Amali Golden (Bloom), Anthony J. Sharpe (Robert the Bruce), and Benjamin Hoetjes (The Code).

Check-In
Would you rather be trapped in a mangrove swamp or a cave with a crocodile? (Neither is also an option!)
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Oh how I love a good creature feature! Sounds like a fun movie. I would not want to be trapped ANYwhere with a crocodile!
I love creature features too!!!! ANOTHER thing we have in common! Also, I’m with you. No to being trapped anywhere and NO to crocodiles being involved!!!!
