“There are many legends about the Blackwood. So as you travel forth from here, please take caution. Let’s hope those stories I’ve heard aren’t all true,” Sally Pickerton (played by Kara Rainer) says in the trailer.
Which, don’t let the movie poster for Blackwood fool you, by the way. (Like it almost did to me.) At first glance, this forthcoming movie from Saban Films may look like a regular western. Especially when it starts out with one of the characters asking, “Do you like gold? We know where enough of it is to make you a rich man.”
Well, that’s certainly both the American Dream (to be rich) and the basis of so many westerns, isn’t it? The quest to find gold and the adventure the characters have along the way while searching for it?
Blackwood contains all of those elements too. “We’re gonna find the prospectors, get the gold and get the hell out of Dodge!”
However, Blackwood is also a horror movie. A creature feature about the Wendigo, to be exact. Because as the characters quickly figure out, they’re not alone. “There’s something out there.” Worse, they realize “the stories are real.”
Let’s take a closer look at this intense journey into the darkness of the American Old West, including who’s in it, the trailer, and the movie’s release date.

Check-In
Which one have you watched most recently: a western or a movie about a Wendigo?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
