Today Haunt Jaunts hit what I think is an impressive mark. I say that because when I started Tweeting back in September I saw friends with 400+ followers and thought, “Wow. Maybe in a year that’ll be me.”

Not that all of them had been tweeting for a full year yet either, but they’d been at it a while. (Months longer than me, that’s for sure.) I knew it’d take time to acquire followers. At first all I was hoping for was 100 followers. Imagine my surprise when I accomplished that in less than a month!

Then I was curious if and how long it would take to get to 300 followers. That, too, seemed to happen pretty fast. (Much quicker than I’d expected at any rate.)

But then it seemed I stayed pretty stagnant in the 300 range for most of the last month. It was only yesterday when my Followers number caught my eye. It was up to 399!

“What the what?” I thought. “I’m almost to 400? Holy guacamole! Probably by Thanksgiving I’ll be over 400. Wow. And it didn’t even take six months! ”

I didn’t even have to wait until Thanksgiving. This afternoon when I signed on to take care of some Twitter biz, I found Haunt Jaunts at 402 followers!

Fantastic!

Next goal? 1,000. I have no idea how long it’ll take, but I believe in time I will get there. (I’m shooting for six months from now.)

As you might have guessed, I’ll be sure to let you know when I get there!

WHY I RECOMMEND TWITTER

Just a little extra note. Twitter is NOT for everyone. Like I’ve said before, before Haunt Jaunts I thought Twitter was ridiculous. But every friend who writes (fiction or has a blog) that Twitters kept saying over and over again, “You’re missing out on a valuable tool. There’s lots of info there, Courtney. Both to share and receive.”

So…as I started developing more of a plan for HJ, I decided to test Twitter and see if it was all that.

It didn’t take me but a week (if that) to see it’s all that and then some. I’ve learned about a slew of really interesting people, companies, products…and I’ve seen my hits increase as a result.

It’s been a fun way to grow my blog’s horizons and my own. Now I see why all my friends so highly recommended it. (Even if you don’t blog but you’re passionate about a certain subject matter, Twitter is an excellent way to keep you up to date and informed.)

If you’re a follower of both the blog and HJ on Twitter (or just one or the other)…THANKS! As you can see, it just tickles me beyond words.

  1. I’m proud to be one of those 400 that follow you on twitter. I think that I will tweet what we post on Above the Norm on there to see if it brings more readers. My tweets also show up on my facebook page too. I don’t have 400 followers but 60+ and going strong, lol. Congrats and it would be cool if you hit 1000 before the year is up.

    Thanks Autumnforest and Julie!

And Julie, I have been known to Tweet Above the Norm links. (Same with Ghost Hunting Theories links.) I know a good Tweet when I see one! 😉

But it DOES help bring in more readers. You should try it. And 1,000 before the year is up? WOW! you’re more optimistic than me. I’m hoping to make that in 6 months from now…if I get to 1,000 before 2010…WOW!!!!!!
