In 1992, former “poltergeist girl” Christina Boyer murdered her three-year-old daughter Amber. Or did she? That’s what the ABC News Studios three-part docuseries Demons and Saviors examines. It starts streaming exclusively on Hulu on Thursday, August 3.
As a teenager, Boyers allegedly demonstrated telekinetic powers that drew the attention of the media. Then what happened to her? Does she still have her powers? Did she have them when her daughter died? Was she responsible for that or was she unjustly charged and convicted, based in part on her paranormal past?
A jury found her guilty of murder but spared her the death sentence. Instead, she’s serving a life sentence. Unless a group of amateur sleuths who believe she’s innocent can change that. Will they?
Demons and Saviors is the fourth in a series of true crime docuseries from ABC News Studios that have released exclusively on Hulu this summer. The others were The Ashley Madison Affair, Betrayal: The Perfect Husband, and Mother Undercover.
I haven’t seen Mother Undercover, but I binged the other two, which ABC News Studios claimed were “gripping.” That wasn’t an exaggeration. They were!
I’m very curious to learn more about Christina Boyer and see where Demons and Saviors leads. Will it show she’s innocent? Will it affect her sentence?
I don’t know, but judging from its trailer (included below), it also looks gripping. I’ll be prepared to indulge in another binge. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.
Demons and Saviors Synopsis
Here’s the synopsis from ABC New Studios:
The three-part series “Demons and Saviors” tells the remarkable story of Christina Boyer– once infamously known as the “poltergeist girl,” now a woman convicted of murdering her three-year-old daughter. Thirty years into a life sentence, Christina still proclaims her innocence. The series follows a group of amateur sleuths who have become consumed by their obsession to exonerate her. Exploring Christina’s troubled upbringing, her alleged telekinetic abilities, and the questions that remain about the death of her daughter, “Demons and Saviors” investigates what is the conspiracy and what is the truth.

Check-In
Have you seen any of the other ABC News Studios docuseries that have been on Hulu this year?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
This looks very awesome!
If you have Hulu, I highly recommend this one, Troy. It was well done and done with compassion and complexity. Really makes you see the whole person and situation and how it led up to the tragic results it did. I just hope they do a follow up so we know if she eventually received a pardon or not.
