Horror and the paranormal don’t normally pop first to mind when you mention Disney. However, Disney does know a thing or two about scary —all family-friendly, of course. Take, for example, the Haunted Mansion rides and movies like those from the Witch Mountain franchise, Frankenweenie, and beloved modern classics like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus. Disney even had a paranormal series called So Weird. Its about to release another kid-friendly paranormal series: Secrets of Sulphur Springs.
It actually looks pretty good. It involves a haunted hotel in Louisiana. Was that all it took to pique your interest too? Same here. Let’s take a closer look at what it’s all about.
Secrets of Sulphur Springs Storyline
Here’s a synopsis of the series that Bloody Disgusting shared:
Griffin Campbell and his family move to the old Tremont hotel in the town of Sulphur Springs. The entire town believes that the hotel is haunted by the ghost of a girl named Savannah, who disappeared over 30 years ago. When Griffin and his new best friend Harper try to solve the mystery of what happened to her they find a portal that lets them travel back in time, where they learn that the secret to solving the mystery is meeting Griffin’s own father!
Cast
Preston Oliver, who stars as Griffin, is still a relative newcomer. He’s been in a few other series, though, including Chicago Fire (“Riley Boyd”), This Is Us (“Kevin’s son”), and Roswell, New Mexico (Young Michael).
Elle Graham plays “Savannah” and she’s no stranger to appearing in spooky series. She played “Susie Coyle” on the CW’s Swamp Thing, “Winnie” in The Walking Dead, and “Sara Hopper” in Stranger Things.
Then there’s Kyliegh Curra, who plays Griffin’s new best friend “Harper.” She’s also a relative newcomer, but she’s got chops. If you saw Doctor Sleep, you know what I mean. She was the girl who played “Abra Stone.”
Josh Braaten (Ben Campbell), Kelly Frye (Sarah Campbell), Madeleine McGraw (Zoey Campbell), Landon Gordon (Wyatt Campbell), and Jim Gleason (Bennett Campbell, Sr.) also star in the series.
Release Date
According to Disney Plus Informer, Secrets of Sulphur Springs premieres on the Disney Channel on January 15, 2021, with a special one-hour uninterrupted event.
Then, starting on January 22, new half-hour episodes will follow on Fridays at 8:00-8:30 p.m. EST/PST.

Check-In
Do you have a favorite Disney series? If so, what is it?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Oo, this does sound like a fun show. I used to watch Lizzie McGuire with my now-grown daughter. That was a cute Disney show, not spooky at all but cute.:-)
Lizzie McGuire was super cute! That’s a good one!
