Bran Castle or Dracula's Castle
Bran Castle in Bran, Romania, is better known as Dracula’s Castle, inspired by the work of Bram Stoker who never even visited it.

Have you heard how Bran Castle, a.k.a. Dracula’s Castle, is offering Romanians and tourists alike the COVID-19 vaccination? If you haven’t already gotten yours, and if it was feasible to make a trip to Romania, would you get your shot there?

Which, if you’re an American, it’s actually not. Currently, U.S. citizens aren’t permitted into Romania unless they meet certain exceptions for entry. However, if you’re a resident of an EU country, you can travel there.

But maybe your answer is, “I’m not getting the vaccination period. I don’t care where it is.”

There are others who feel the same way (both in the U.S. and worldwide) and it’s the reason Dracula’s Castle started this initiative. Many Romanians are also apparently resisting the idea of getting the vaccine too. In fact, the BBC reported that according to a survey, Romania has “one of the highest hesitancy levels in Europe.”

Just under 20 million people live in Romania. The government is aiming to get at least half of them, 10 million, vaccinated by September 2021. As of May 11, just under 4 million have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Only about 2.5 million are fully vaccinated.

That’s why, in conjunction with the government, Bran Castle hopes to help. They’ve somewhat modified their “fangs” to try and entice more people to come and get “jabbed.”

However, there’s also another reason they’re doing this: publicity. It’s a way to let people know they’re open and to hopefully draw tourism back to the region. Like so many other tourist hotspots, Dracula’s Castle has also suffered from the pandemic’s fallout.

The vaccinations will take place on weekends, Friday through Sunday, in the Medieval Custom’s building. It started May 7 and will continue through June 6.

In addition to a “vaccination diploma,” vaxers will also receive admission to the Medieval Torture Instruments Exhibition. That’s normally a 10 LEI (Romanian leu) add-on to the regular admission price of 45 LEI for adults, 35 LEI for seniors, 25 LEI for students, and 10 LEI for children.

So? If you could get your shot there and were willing to, would you? I sure would, for the atmosphere alone!

  1. I would TOTALLY go to the Dracula’s Castle museum to get vaccinated! What an opportunity. I wonder if we could do something like that Stateside. Alcatraz boat trips w/a vaccination on the island, or free hotel overnight stay at the Stanley Hotel with a vaccination record, or . . . (this could be fun).
