Is the most haunted hotel in El Paso, Texas, the De Soto Hotel? I don’t know, because that raises the complicated question of how do you really determine what “the most haunted” is? However, the De Soto Hotel is definitely one of El Paso’s most known and popular haunted places, and 92.9 NiN recently reported the hotel is for sale.

Which is wild because we’re barely into 2021 and this is already the second spooky stay for sale. Recently the Lizzie Borden House Bed and Breakfast went on the market too. Let’s take a gander at the De Soto’s listing.

De Soto Hotel Asking Price

The owners are asking $1,099,899 for it. What does that get you?

In addition to possible ghosts, you’ll get a 22,400 square foot property with the following from the listing’s description:

Historic Hotel commercial property downtown: ”The De Soto Hotel” has been in the downtown El Paso scene for over 100 years. The famous Hotel has 54 furnished rooms, rents are approximate $400-$450 per month. The building comes equipped with Secured code entry, Laundry area, office work areas with a shared bathroom, 5,000 sqft basement space, and store frontage available for lease.
Recently approved by the Planning Division/Planning Inspections of El Paso TX for Infill Development incentive policy. Another available incentive policy is the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) incentive policy. Incentives in the form of Building and Planning Permit Fee Rebates, Construction Materials Sales Tax Rebates, Property Tax Rebates, etc. available!
Many opportunities to convert this commercial gem to condos, offices, and even a restaurant for mixed uses.
Take advantage of the opportunity and contribute to the boom of DT El Paso.

The basement is of particular interest. That’s where some of the scariest paranormal activity is reported.

The De Soto’s Haunted Basement

According to the 92.9 NiN article, the basement is the site of dark energy. Satanic rituals were allegedly conducted down there and people have reported aggressive physical experiences like being touched, scratched, and pebbles being thrown at them.

No wonder it appeaLed to Zak Bagans and was one of the stops on his travels across Texas in his Ghost Adventures: Route 666 Halloween special in 2016.

The De Soto’s Other Paranormal Activity

El Paso Ghost Tours gives haunted tours of downtown El Paso where guests learn about the city’s “architecture, historic figures, and gunfights” before “the evening culminates in a real paranormal investigation in the infamous De Soto Hotel.”

They specifically hunt in the basement where they’ve reported everything from shadow figures and apparitions to EVPs and disembodied voices.

If Zak Bagans was going to expand his Haunted Museum to other areas of the country, do you think Lizzie Bordens or the De Soto Hotel would make for a better location? Or should he expand to both places?

  1. Aw darn, I misread the price at first and thought it said 199k, not 1 MILLION. Eh, I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to own a haunted hotel anyway!
