Have you been anxiously anticipating the new Twilight Zone series? I have.

I didn’t actually see the trailer that aired during the Superbowl, but I heard it. I was in the kitchen washing dishes when the unmistakable “do do do do” hit my ears.

I remember thinking it was a joke or spoof. Then when I returned to the couch and started surfing social media, I realized it was a tease for the new series.

OMG!

Simmer Down

But I quickly checked myself. This was not unfamiliar territory. They’d tried to reboot the Twilight Zone series before. It hadn’t gone well.

So, as much as I wanted to get my hopes up, I couldn’t.

Or I tried not to, I should say. I couldn’t help it. I loved the original series. Every chance I get to watch reruns, I do. Even now, if I’m awake when it’s on MeTV, I watch.

I was curious to see what Jordan Peele would do with it –and hopeful. A friend had turned me on to Key & Peele episodes a few years ago, saying it was some of the funniest stuff she’d ever seen. She was right. Thanks to Hulu, I was able to stream to my heart’s content and catch up.

Then when I heard Peele had made Get Out, I had my reservations before seeing it. Why would he try to tackle horror?

Because he loves it. Yet, he loves smart horror. Something I feel even more strongly about after having seen Us. (Even if I’m still not sure how much I really liked it, I appreciated all the Easter eggs and nods to other classic horror movies.)

Basically, I respect Peele. If anyone could re-launch the Twilight Zone series, he might be the man to resurrect it in a fresh, modern way, while still honoring its classic roots.

Not Free?

However, there was one big drawback. Watching would mean subscribing to CBS All Access. Which would mean forking out money.

Crap.

However, it’s not that expensive. It’s $5.99 a month with limited commercials, or $9.99 a month free from commercial interruption. And if you want a little bit of a discount, about 15%, you can sign up for an annual plan: $59.99 per year for Limited Commercial, or $99.99 per year for Commercial Free.

It’s even risk-free, because you can try it free for a week.

So I’m definitely going to subscribe. But that brings me to a new dilemma…

The Subscription Dilemma

Thanks to my husband’s crazy travel schedule, I’ve had a Companion Pass on Southwest the past few years. The drawback to that is none of my flights count towards A-List status.

To remedy that, I signed up for Southwest Rapid Rewards. When I shop online or eat out at certain places, it counts towards my Rapid Rewards. CBS All Access participates in Southwest’s Rapid Rewards program. So I could get some more points that way.

But I can also just add it as one of my Prime Video channels. I wouldn’t get any points, but at least it’s attached to my Amazon account and I can easily watch through that, either on TV or my Kindle.

But since I can stream it, including via Roku and Samsung (we have a Roku on our downstairs TV, but upstairs is a Samsung Smart TV), I think I’ll go for the Rapid Rewards points and sign up directly from the CBS All Access site: https://www.cbs.com/all-access/

Watch “The Comedian”

Do you subscribe to CBS All Access? Or did you because you were excited to watch the new Twilight Zone too?

If you didn’t, and are like me and want to get a taste of it before going to the hassle of signing up (even with the risk-free one week trial), you can watch the new Twilight Zone‘s first episode, “The Comedian,” free on YouTube.
