Fred TV Series Hoax Scare Tactics Real
A Freddy Krueger TV series isn’t coming to Max in October, but a Scare Tactics reboot will premiere on USA on October 4.

Wow. There are a lot of new spooky shows dropping in time for Halloween this year, aren’t there? For instance, the third season of FROM returned to MGM+ on September 22, Destinations of the Damned with Zak Bagans premieres on October 4 on Discovery Channel, and Hysteria! hits Peacock on October 18.

Two others that I recently learned of are also generating a lot of buzz, partly because they have horror hotshots behind them. Grotesquerie, a Ryan Murphy series heads to FX on September 25. Teacups, another Peacock offering directed by James Wan, premieres on the streamer on October 10.

And even though it’s not a series but a movie, Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot premieres on HBO on October 3. A lot of King fans are also excited about that.

Anyway, it was understandable why I’d believe that a Freddy Krueger series was headed to Max when a friend forwarded a very real-looking graphic for it. But as I read the brief info that accompanied it, my heart sank. Rob Zombie was involved? Ugh. No. His Halloween (2007) remake was a mess.

The Freddy Krueger Series Hoax

However, as much as I disliked Zombie’s version of Halloween, I’m a sucker for anything Nightmare on Elm Street. Of course I’d give Fred a chance.

But when was it starting? The graphic indicated October 2024 and Max, but was there a more definite start date? And who would play the titular character? DJ Qualls was mentioned in the email, but was he really going to take on the role of Freddy?

Also, my friend’s email indicated it was a 10-part series, but the cover said “a Rob Zombie film.” Which was it going to be?

Turns out, none of the above. Snopes labeled the Freddy Krueger series “Satire.” As they explained, “The Facebook account that originally shared the fake poster, YODA BBY ABY, has made dozens of similarly fake posters for movies and TV shows and appears to be connected with the satirical site screenslant.com.”

“Are you scared yet? You shouldn’t be!”

Will they use that same reveal wordage on the Scare Tactics reboot? Or will they employ something new?

I don’t know, but I do know it’s really happening, which makes my heart happy. Scare Tactics was one of my favorite shows back in the day. And it’s also got a big name horror heavy hitter producing it: Jordan Peele.

I’m just hoping that because it’s on an NBC Universal network (USA) that it will also stream the next day on Peacock because then I can watch it. I’ll find out on October 5. It premieres on USA on October 4.

Whose horror movies do you enjoy more: Jordan Peele or Rob Zombie? (“Both” is always a perfectly acceptable, not to mention diplomatic, choice!)

  1. Fake movie posters? i’m so gullible, I’d fall for every one of them! Hm, Peele or Zombie … two talented filmmakers (despite 2007’s Halloween), so I’d have to say, “Both!”

I’m right there with you on the gullible train, Priscilla! And both is a super good answer. (And so fitting for you, one of the most diplomatic people I’ve ever known!!!!)
