When Ghost Adventures: House Calls premiered in 2022, many people wondered why Zak Bagans wasn’t on-site for the investigations. It seemed to be a combination of reasons, including experimenting with a different form of investigating, perhaps to try and assuage his fear of flying.
But with the new season of House Calls premiering on April 3 on Discovery, there’s a new question. Will Zak be on location for any of the episodes? Or will he stay behind and direct the hunt from headquarters again?
Zak’s Part in the House Calls
As he did in season 1, Zak will review cases with the team—Aaron Goodwin, Billy Tolley, and Jay Wasley—before dispatching them across the U.S. on investigations. Once they arrive at their destinations, they’ll conduct eyewitness interviews and perform the dusk-to-dawn “lockdowns” while Zak once again overseas things from HQ.
Once all intel is gathered, Zak assists in sharing findings with the homeowners. Then he offers options for a home-sweet-home resolution to their haunted pest problems.

Check-In
Is it just me, or do all the episodes sound pretty much the same?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Didn’t know he hated flying. So does Steve Gonsalves with Ghost Hunters. That would explain a lot.
The episodes do sound similar, but I don’t doubt that different ghosts or demons (if there are any) manifest in different ways or affect the crew in different ways. (Scary!)
I’m not sure I knew Steve hated flying. I want to say your comment rang a bell about that, but…I never know with my mind. lol It interesting that they fear it though. I think someone said in Zak’s case it was because he had a bad flight once. Do you know if that’s the same in Steve’s case? Or maybe it’s just representative of the fear of flying in general?
Ooooh! As usual the way you look at things brings a fresh, caring, considerate perspective I never even considered, Priscilla! Once again why I’m grateful you take the time to leave your comments like you do. I love getting the chance to see the world through another lens.
A long time ago, Ghost Hunters was going over to England/Ireland for a couple of episodes. Steve got on the plane, but had to get off before it took off. He has a phobia about flying. He commented on one of the shows that they only thing that doesn’t scare him is ghosts.
Oh wait! You jogged a memory! I remember that episode! And I also remember him saying that before about how ghosts are one of the few things he’s not afraid of. In fact, I think one time I interviewed him about a spider incident and he said something to that effect too. How he was scared of the spiders but not the ghosts. Or maybe it was during an episode he said it and I asked him about it during an interview? I don’t recall exactly but you did remind me I remember that episode and him joking about his fears.
I actually watched the first episode last night. There’s a whole different vibe to the crew without Zack there.
They conducted themselves more like the OG Ghosthunters crew in their efforts to debunk and find actual evidence. I rather liked it for a change.
Have you caught it yet?
I haven’t, Maria, but after your comment maybe now I’ll give it a go. I might like that. I’m pretty much over what they’ve morphed into over the years. But now you’ve got me curious! lol
