Just when I thought it was safe to pick up the remote, I read an article about a pilot for another ghost hunting show: Ghost Chicks.
Whatdya think? The photo suggests Charlie’s Angels meets Ghost Hunters. It’s so ridiculous and obvious I may have to watch if the pilot gets picked up and a series is released.
And which channel might run it that doesn’t yet have a ghost hunting show?
Hmmm…Lifetime, Oxygen, and Bravo are the obvious choices. (This is strictly me speculating. Nowhere has this been written.)
But, come on. The title aside (which screams “Estrogen!” by itself), it became immediately evident to me they know who their target audience is when I checked out their About page.
I mean, when the very first sentence is “‘Ghost Hunters’ meets ‘The View.'”….um, I don’t know too many men who watch The View. Not on a regular basis. (Except maybe The Soup‘s Joel McHale, but I think he’d plead he has to for job purposes. Uh huh. Whatever helps you sleep at night, Joel.)
And then there’s this blurb/synopsis about the show, which I also pulled from their About page:
“Ghost Chicks” offers the audience the same “boo factor” that is the cornerstone of any ghost hunting show, but gives the audience something new… The psychic angle, the resolution for the people at each dwelling, the discussion and most importantly the female perspective! Our motto is: “Investigate, Instruct, Resolve”.
The female perspective…isn’t that Kris Williams and Amy Bruni’s jobs on Ghost Hunters?
Okay, enough of me being snarky.
Psychic medium Amber Anderson and Karen Timper, an experienced paranormal investigator, will head the cast…er, I mean investigation team. Stephanie Albanese (video technology), Kristina Rugnetta (audio technology) and Mary Foley (photograph technology) round out the group.
Who knows, maybe they will bring a fresh take. Just as long as they don’t try to pass off any fakes!
Now that would be a fresh show…one that actually finds bonafied proof of a ghost! Maybe that’s what these ladies will do –since no other male-lead ghost hunting show has done it.
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
You know, I shouldn’t be surprised. Actually middle-aged women are the biggest watchers of ghost hunting shows, so maybe it would fit, but I can’t see one single man wanting to see women ghost hunting, unless they’re college coed’s in Daisy Dukes crawling into tight places while rain wets their t-shirts. Okay, I might have just given them another idea for a show! (Actually, I think they temporarily had a college girls in haunted places show–short lived too).
Next Tuesday Paranormal Cops show starts right after Paranormal State. So, what are we missing; plumbers, adolescent-like boy-men, cops, big old Texans, college kids, now chicks. Rolling my eyes. How about a bigfoot-hunters show–finally???? P-L-E-A-S-E! I I wanna see cute lumberjack-like men in khakis in the forest camping out and hearing scary things crunching around the camp. Now, that has my interest!
lol, you crack me up Courtney 🙂
It’s about time they have women leading the show.!!! Women seem to have a sixth sense. They can feel more and can absolutely pick up on things way more then men.
some call it womens intuition, I am looking forward to what they find, they are more open to what surrounds them. I see nothing wrong with it!!! How much longer do I have to see the men make pretend they hear something!!
i believe they will be a positive impact on the spirit world.
happy haunting
Hey all! Thanks for the great comments!
Autumnforest, I watched that college girl show!!! Forgot all about it until you said something. It was BORING! But I think if maybe the girls were doing what you said, there’d be a male audience for that. Sadly. However, I’d watch the bigfoot show idea you had. Josh Gates sort of fits that bill though. (Or at least satisfies it for now.;)
Atrue: I’m glad I make someone laugh!
And goldilocks…WELCOME! I’m glad you left these comments. One thing your comment inspired me to consider that I had not…how will ghosts interact with an all-woman team? Would they be more inclined to open up? So, you could very well be right that they’ll have a positive impact on the spirit world. It will be interesting to find out!
I just don’t know what to think about this. On one hand…..another ghost hunting show??? On the other hand, they just might provide a totally different prospective on ghost hunting. I just hope they don’t go running around screaming everytime something scary happens like they do on Most Haunted. That just totally puts me off.
Oh dear. Julie, that would be so bad if they were Scream Queens like Most Haunted. Not cool. But I’m with you…let’s see what they got. Maybe it’ll be something neat and new. If not, file it under the “Just another ghost hunting show” tab!
