“Winner of Ring contest gets $1 million for proof of extraterrestrials from Ring cam,” the CNET headline read. However, I only saw the first part of the headline, which registered as “Ring alien contest.” And the first “Ring” I thought of was the horror movie The Ring.
Which completely confused me. As far as I knew, a new movie in that franchise hadn’t been announced. Even if one had, that’d be an unusual promo strategy. Maybe ghosts or demons caught on a Ring camera, but aliens? Didn’t track. Unless the new movie was venturing into space or something.
Needless to say, eventually, my brain registered the “Ring cam” part of the headline.
Huh. A Ring camera alien contest. There are several ways to make money in the paranormal, but I never saw the popular security camera company adding to it.
However, as you might expect, winning the $1 million prize isn’t going to be easy. Ring wants “unaltered scientific evidence of a real extraterrestrial lifeform” from one of their devices, be that indoor or outdoor.
No real ETs? Other Stellar Ring Alien Contest Prizes
Ring doesn’t expect anyone to submit “real” evidence, but they do encourage creative submissions.
“Lure in Extraterrestrials by decorating your front porch and lawn with alien-inspired décor and impressive high-tech gear,” they suggest.
They also highly encourage “accessories, homemade spacecrafts and Extraterrestrial-inspired communication with your Ring device.”
They’ll judge entries based on creativity, humor, and engagement with a Ring device. Then all you have to do to enter is “submit your most creative interpretation of an Extraterrestrial sighting on your Ring device, and you will be in the running among your earthling peers to win a $500 Amazon gift card.”
Ring Alien and Halloween-Themed Quick Replies
You can still get into the spirit using their Quick Replies even if you don’t enter the contest.
“Greet your starfarer friends by adding intergalactic Quick Replies to your Ring Video Doorbell,” they advise. “With a handful of Alien and Halloween-themed messages you can pick from, your automatic Quick Reply will greet guests with an otherworldly response when they press the doorbell.”

The contest runs until November 3. Entries will reopen on October 12. Entry details and rules can be found here: https://ringmilliondollarsighting.com/comingsoon.
Check-In
Do you have any Ring devices?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I don’t have any Ring thingies, but this looks like so much fun!
“Ring thingies”…ROFL! Love that! I don’t have that brand either (but we have some other basic cameras outside). But this amused me to no end. Almost makes me want to get one just so I could direct a short scene and enter. lol
