I’ve been keeping a watch on Groupon Getaway deals each week to see if any haunted hotels come up. This week they have one! It’s for the Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia.

The first Homestead hotel was built in 1766 on the same site the present one is now located on, making it one of America’s oldest hotels. This resort seems like a wonderful place to visit no matter the season. In winter they have skiing, ice skating, and snow tubing. In nicer weather they offer everything from golf and tennis to horseback riding, hiking, canoeing, and fly fishing. They even have Segway tours and a back country driving school.

Oh, and then there’s the hot springs. After an exhausting day enjoying the area’s nature and beauty, unwind in the naturally warm mineral waters in the indoor pool. Or, for a true experience, partake in the outdoor mineral pools. In summer, Allegheny Springs is a popular summer spot for the family. There are water slides and a lazy river for the kids and kids at heart.

As for ghosts, the Homestead has that too. According to one article about the hotel, the 14th floor is the most active. There have been reports of a woman in period clothing asking for the time. She’s thought to be the spirit of a woman whose groom abandoned her on her wedding day. It’s thought she was so heartbroken she committed suicide and now wanders the 14th floor (perhaps where she was staying before the ceremony?) asking people the time as she waits for her groom to return.

I can’t help but wonder if the Homestead’s 14th floor is truly the 14th floor or, like the Hotel Monteleone, is technically the 13th floor just renumbered the 14th floor? Not sure, but in 2010 the Homestead was selected by Travelocity Editors as one of the top haunted hotels.

All I know is hot springs and ghosts? Count me in!

  1. To answer your question, the 14th floor is in fact the 13th. They have no “13th” floor marked anywhere in the hotel and all the elevators skip from 12 to 14.

  2. Yes can you please tell me what your next available dates that you will be doing the haunted homestead package?
