I know this sounds crazy, but in years past, the original Halloween used to prove tricky to find on TV during October. You know, back when cable ruled, On Demand was in its infancy, and streaming services didn’t exist. If you didn’t own a copy of it, you had to wait for it to come on at a scheduled time. (Would we consider that the dark ages of at-home entertainment now?)
Anyway, times have definitely changed. Nowadays, in addition to a plethora of paid streamers, there are also plenty of free options, like Crackle and Redbox. Even better, they’re among the good streamers for horror fans. They both offer a lot of content, some of which is even original.
Halloween is streaming for free on both Crackle and Redbox this month. So is Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Last Shift, and Willy’s Wonderland, starring Nicholas Cage in a Five Nights at Freddy’s-esque “battle with the possessed animatronic mascots that roam the halls” of an abandoned family fun center.
Cage is also in another movie playing on Redbox this month. He plays an ad exec in Vampire’s Kiss whose bar hookup bites him on the neck. Believing she’s a vampire, he then thinks he’s turning into one too.
Other big-name stars you’ll find in free Rebdox movies this month include Mena Suvari and Nick Cannon in Day of the Dead, Bruce Campbell in Bubba Ho-Tep, and Christina Ricci in Monstrous. On Crackle you can watch Linda Blair in Wes Craven’s Summer of Fear and Vincent Price in House on Haunted Hill.
