What a week! Haunt Jaunts had not one, but two big things happen.
#50 OUT OF 118
Back in December I got an email from a representative of a new site that was at that time in Beta phase called Sulia. It’s tagline is “The interest network.”
Here’s a snippet from their email to me explaining what they’re all about:
Our Paranormal Channel is syndicated around the web, including to the most popular BlackBerry Twitter app, called UberTwitter, which featured our Paranormal Channel Sunday. It’s still in their Featured section today though! Tens of thousands of people view our Channels there every day. And even more view them on our website at http://beta.sulia.com/channel/paranormal/.
We’re currently have deals with other apps like Tweetdeck and publishers like the Washington Post to distribute your voice and content to even more readers. Our mission is to organize the world’s social expertise and distribute it to everyone, whether it’s on their computer, their tablet, or their phone.
Apparently they had listed Haunt Jaunts as one of their Paranormal experts. I didn’t look into it then. It was December, what can I say? Between the holidays and dealing with my sick cat and his feeding tube, blog stuff fell by the wayside.
But I finally had time to check it all out and was stunned to discover Haunt Jaunts was ranked #50 of Sulia’s paranormal channel 118 Twitter experts. Shazam!
It made it more impressive to me because the top experts are ones you’d expect, Jason Hawes, Grant Wilson, Kris Williams, Ghost Adventures, Chip Coffey, etc. But then a lot of Tweeters I follow and love, like @HauntedPlaces, @EntitiesRUs, @RCParanormal, @GhostEyes_Angie, @SouthernGhosts, @IQXS, @gparanormal, @StanleyHotel, @PISCAonline, and @Parachasers (just to name a few) were on there too.
I was ranked in that kind of company? Again, SHAZAM! And, “Say what??? Get outta here!”
Pretty thrilling to be perfectly honest.
SHORTY AWARD NOMINATION
Then @JenBlaney shocked me by nominating Haunt Jaunts for a Shorty Award in Travel.
I laughed when I first saw she’d done that. I am short. Not knowing what the Shorty Awards were I thought it had something to do with me being fun size.
But the Shorty Awards honor the best producers of short real-time content in 140 characters or less on Twitter in a variety of categories. I was flabbergasted Jen had gone out of her way to nominate HJ when I checked it out and saw what it was really all about.
But then that crazy Jen went and nominated HJ for a #FollowFriday Shorty too! I voted for myself on the travel one, but I cast my #FollowFriday vote for Jen instead. She is always the first #FF I see on Fridays, and usually she does it early on Thursdays. And she rarely, if ever, misses a #FollowFriday. She definitely deserves it!
So, yeah, what a week. I’d love to say “Go, Haunt Jaunts!” but guess what? Haunt Jaunts is what it is because of the awesome people who follow. Plain and simple!
(P.S. I’ve never been nominated for an award before so I’m going to ask: If you’re on either Twitter or Facebook –because I think you can sign in using either– and wouldn’t mind, would you go cast a vote for HJ in the Shorty Awards too? This link will take you there. You can vote for me in Travel or Follow Friday or both. Thanks!)
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Congratulations! That is huge. I’m not surprised. You deserve it all. I always knew you were an expert.
LOL Jessica! Okay, even though I love the flattery you talkin’ crazy! I’m no expert. I’m just passionate! And I Tweet a lot…that’s what really did it.
I SEE YOU GOT NOMINATED FOR A TWO SHORT AWARD. CONGRATIONS!!!!!!! COURTNEY.!!!!!!!!! YOU MUST BE HAPPY ABOUT IT.
Thanks, Andy! YES! I was shocked first, excited second. I have no hope of winning, but the fact someone thought to nominate me for anything? Made me a very happy girl indeed!!!!!!

Congratulations….well deserved. I have never won a thing in my life. Oh, I tell a lie – the band were once playing a hoedown for a young farmers dance and I won the prize draw…a 56lb sack of potatoes. We lived on baked potatoes and french fries for weeks.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! That is hysterical! But I expect that from you now!
