After a year of waiting, we’ve finally got an update on the release status of Haunted Discoveries. That’s the good news. The bad news is, it won’t be available in the U.S.
At first. But there is hope we’ll eventually be able to watch here too.
Let’s unpack what Haunted Discoveries is, why people who know about it are excited about its release, and where it will premiere.
Haunted Discoveries Background
I’ve been tracking the progress of Haunted Discoveries ever since Mustafa Gatollari responded to a tweet I made in March 2022.
“Is there a location you’re sick of seeing investigated on TV? What about one you’d like to see investigated more?” I’d asked just anyone in general.
To my surprise, Gatollari responded, “We have pretty much all new locations in our new series, @HauntedDiscover.”
#Intriguing
I excitedly answered back: “Oh this is excellent! When’s it premiering? How do I get more info? Can you hook me up with a press release or anything so I can write about it? Thanks for this at least! The hunt for more info is now underway!”
Well, Gatollari and Brandon Alvis, his Haunted Discoveries co-star (who both appeared in the Ghost Hunters reboot with Grant Wilson), ended up chatting with me about their new show and book, Elements of a Haunting.
The book influenced their show, and vice versa. Haunted Discoveries sprung up from Elements of a Haunting, but they also apply theories they pose in the book to the investigations they conduct in the series.
Historical researcher Malia Miglino and longtime paranormal investigator Kevin Otte join Gatollari and Alvis on the Haunted Discoveries team.
Haunted Discoveries Release Info
Alvis posted the release info on all of his socials, but I spotted it on Instagram. Haunted Discoveries will premiere during this year’s T+E Creep Week on Friday, October 6, at 9 pm ET/PT. (T+E is essentially the Canadian equivalent of Travel Channel.)
Will Haunted Discoveries air in the U.S.?
Naturally, that’s what Americans want to know. Here’s how Alvis responded to someone who posed that question on his Facebook page: “More announcements coming soon,” followed by a ghost emoji.
There is reason to hope we’ll see it find a home on some channel here in the U.S. After all, the second season of Eli Roth Presents: A Ghost Ruined My Life premiered during last year’s Creep Week. It finally premiered in the U.S. this summer along with The Legion of Exorcists.
However, the big question will be, “Where will it air?”
Travel Channel used to be the obvious choice, but there’s no denying the Warner Bros. Discovery merger has affected (annihilated) the channel’s typical paranormal programming production. So I guess we hurry up and wait to see what happens. Like it always does, time will eventually tell.
Check-In
Where do you think Haunted Discoveries might air in the U.S.?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I’m sure it’ll reach the US sooner or later. Hm, maybe on Peacock?
I don’t dare hold my breath. The way things are being mismanaged by the CEO of Warner/Discovery I’m losing more of my favorite programs than gaining any.
Oh I hadn’t even thought of Peacock, Vera. Maybe! Good thinking!
LOL Maria. I mean, it’s not funny because you’re voicing the aggravation so many are feeling, but the way you put (“don’t dare hold my breath”) made me chuckle.
With the ridiculous, nonsensical, mindless, and juvenile shows that are popping up with fervent expediency on Travel/Discovery+/Discovery now, I would bet 1000/1 that they are already feeling the beginnings of the hit of the money loss in their bank accounts while watching the descent of the bottom line as it goes from black to red with hasty procession. I am sure the majority of the Paranormal and True Crime loving audience, which was, in turn, the majority of the Travel/Discovery+/Discovery viewing audience, us, are running away from them as fast as our ghost hunting feet can carry us, and we’re not looking back, unless they halt their stupidity and make a 180 degree turn as fast as windy flames devour!
Travel/Discover is quickly becoming a one-ring circus with nothing more than the clown show for entertainment; every program almost exactly like the previous one. Of the bulk of the plethora of new additions to the network, there are at least three or four “different” 90-Day Fiancé shows now. And the other entertainment, if you dare to call it that, is almost all in the same exact vein! Really? Who gives two craps about that fakery? Paranormal and True Crime people don’t want to see one iota of that feigned, mindless tommyrot! Don’t they understand that they’re targeting the wrong audience now? THAT audience frequents MTV, and they won’t be coming over to Travel Channel … EVER! We are watching, firsthand and front row, while a network destroys itself. Sadly, it’s the one we grew to love, and they’re destroying the WHAT we grew to love about it. 🙁
Wow, sorry. I don’t know why I posted that rant on this thread. It had nothing to do with what you wrote! LOL! I think it was because I knew that Discovery+ wasn’t going to pick it up! Yeah! That was it! Okay, whew, glad I figured that out. And since I’m done arguing with myself. I will go now.
LOL It’s all good, Troy.
I guess Ghost Adventures is going a whopping eight, count ’em, EIGHT episodes this season! WOW! Is Zak and gang on their way out, too?
*doing, not going
It wouldn’t surprise on the one hand, Troy, but it would on another. Are you sure they’re not doing a half season sort of thing? I’m not getting any info from any Warner Bros. Discovery sources anymore so I don’t know if maybe the next episodes will start up again this October. If I hear though, I’ll comment back here.
Well, they have just upped it to 10 episodes. I spoke with someone at the Travel Channel, and they ARE keeping Ghost Adventures and Paranormal Caught on Camera. But I told him that he was going to lose a plethora of people if they get rid of their Paranormal & Unexplained platform and their True Crime platform, and he sounded surprised. He asked me to expand on that, so I did … in detail, and you know how detailed I can get … HA HA :P! I even explained that a lot of the shows they were now focusing on were mainly shows for the MTV audience, not for the audience they currently cater to. And I reminded him of, and compared it to, what just happened to Bud Light and how they misunderstood their target customer base and paid dearly and heavily for it. He understood THAT wholeheartedly. I told him that if they don’t do Ghostober, then it’s over for them. He didn’t really comment on that point. But then, he thanked me with sincerity and what seemed like true appreciation, as if no one had said anything to him about it up to that point (STRANGE)! Then he told me that he would pass all the information I had given him up the ladder.
