Ever since the Destination Truth “Island of the Dolls” episode (click here to read a great recap about the show from Above the Norm) I’m noticing creepy dolls.
For instance, Autumnforest of Ghost Hunting Theories is incorporating all sorts of dolls into the decorations for her Halloween party. (Click here to see the photos of what she’s done.)
Then on Twitter @haunteddolls started following me this past week. I always check out who’s following me before I decide if I’ll follow them and that’s how I clicked on the link in their description to find out about their doll house cam.
Yep, that’s right, a web cam dedicated to four dolls: True, Chrystal, Monika, and Sharla. Sweet, innocent-looking dolls that are supposedly haunted and do things.
What exactly do they do? I don’t know, but there’s a forum dedicated to discussing anything unusual that “armchair detectives” may see. (Forums also give the doll’s haunted history, allow people to share “cam captures” and give tips for capturing images to share in the forums.)
Weird, wild stuff! Just the kind of thing I love!

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Fear of dolls is pretty universal. I love the farmhouse dolls–that’s truly wickedly cool! Someone really gets what scary is about! I hope to keep my dolls after the party and when I set up my office in my home for my horror novel writing, I’ll have them on a shelf staring at me, hopefully with one of those clown dolls too like the one in Poltergeist.
Thanks for the mention and the link to the website for the dolls. I will have to check them out and follow them on Twitter. Dolls are truly spooky and creepy especially the ones whose eyes open and shut.
Autumnforest: You are NUTS! I would FLEE from any work space with that creepy clown from Poltergeist! But you? I see you making it work to help you create some wicked good fiction!
Julie: Welcome! And I agree with you…that doll on DT that popped its eye open all of a sudden? CREEPY GALORE! (I think that’s why I’m noticing anything dolls lately…I couldn’t believe I was actually frightened by something like that!)
The episode of Destination Truth with the dolls truly oooged me out. Delicious. The way they were displayed definitely had me open mouthed and wondering – especially the hanging dolls. Yeah, good one.
