I decided it’s time to do another anthology. I’m excited to introduce this time’s theme: Haunted Playthings: 13 Tales of Terror Based on True Stories…or are they?
Another one?
Yes. In case you’re new around here, or have forgotten (it has been a few years), let me explain. The first one was Shadow People and Cursed Objects: 13 Tales of Terror Based on True Stories…or are they?
You may have noticed that the two titles share something in common, namely the “13 Tales of Terror Based on True Stories…or are they?” part.
What’s all that about?
Reader Participation Encouraged
Shadow People and Cursed Objects, or SPACO as I affectionately refer to it, included thirteen short stories that were either based on fact or were straight from the author’s imagination.
From the creator of Haunt Jaunts, a travel site for restless spirits, comes a unique anthology where reader participation is encouraged.
Inside this book awaits a baker’s dozen of tantalizing tales of terror based on true stories…or are they? You, Dear Reader, will be the judge. See if you can tell what is based on fact or pure imagination.
All is revealed in the Truth or Fiction section.
The fun was for the reader to decide which was which. And, as explained in the book’s blurb, there was a section where the author shared whether the story was based on a true story or not.
Haunted Playthings will employ the same concept.
Call for Submissions
As the title suggests, Haunted Playthings will contain thirteen short stories about just that…haunted playthings. Including (but not limited to):
- Ouija boards
- Haunted dolls
- Haunted video games or electronic toys
- Possessed rocking horses
- Haunted tricycles
- Spooky swing sets or playgrounds
- Whatever other kind of haunted plaything you want to write about! Yoyos, hula hoops, Slinkys, stuffed animals, fidget spinners, puzzles, action figures, dress up clothes, Slip and Slides, chalk, coloring books…there are loads of possibilities really.
Stories can be based on a true account of a haunted plaything (think Robert the Doll, Annabelle the Haunted Doll, or even Lake Shawnee Amusement Park). Or they can be an invention of the writer’s imagination.
Get creative and have fun!

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I can’t wait!!
