I didn’t include this with yesterday’s Haunts with Heart listing because it was getting a little long, and I felt this one had enough to warrant it’s own post. Thanks goes to Connie Nelson, the Communications/Public Relations Director for Wilmington/Cape Fear Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau, who was nice enough to not only share the many Halloween-themed fundraising events going on in her area, but to send pictures too!
28th Annual Halloween Festival at Poplar Grove Plantation – Proceeds will be shared with Topsail High School Music Department, New Hanover Pop Warner Cheerleaders, Hoggard High School Latin Club, and Hampstead Fire Department.
Mardi Gras Misfortune, A Lyceum Haunted House – This is the fundraiser for the Lyceum Academy of New Hanover High School.
Trick or Treat Trot 5K Run & 1 mile Fun Run/Walk – Proceeds to benefit Communities in Schools.
Trick-or-Treat at the Mall – The retailers are handing out candy, but they’re encouraging Halloweeners to bring canned food for the Eastern North Carolina Food Bank. First 500 that do get a goodie bag.

Connie was also kind enough to share with me this link to a page that lists even more of the paranormal delights Wilmington and North Carolina’s Cape Fear Coast has to offer around Halloween. Not all of them benefit charity, and some, like the Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington and the Haunted Pub Crawl, are year-round, but they all sound like great fun!
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
