Are you a sucker for “based on a true story” or “inspired by” movies? I am. Big time. That’s why the forthcoming horror movie, Heir of the Witch, caught my attention. Victoria Bell, the movie’s writer, director, and star, drew inspiration for the movie from her grandmother, who was actually a Moldovan witch.
“Although I was inspired by true events thru my family’s affairs, I took the script to a creative place, bringing in other elements of gothic horror, romance and a little twist to make a more impactful cinematic experience, ” Bell says.
Interesting. Let’s take a look at what it’s about, when it’s coming out, and a peek at the trailer.
Synopsis
Here’s the short version synopsis from Pasha Entertainment:
An underprivileged seamstress, haunted by her past, seeks love and acceptance in high society but is faced with the curse from her evil roots.
But a longer version of the plot explains that Anna, the seamstress (played by Bell), flees to America as a child after killing her grandmother, an evil witch who “often bound young Anna to a chair in a dark room, while performing sadistic witchery on her with her own blood.”
Well, that explains why Anna killed her grandmother. Which she did “by brutally stabbing her with the scissors her grandmother gifted her in a sewing kit on her birthday.”
Later, when Anna’s an adult, she sews a dress for a wealthy woman named Chloe (played Deanna Rashell). When Anna’s aunt needs medicine they can’t afford, Anna finds herself basically becoming Chole’s personal assistant and falls in love with Chloe’s husband, Nicholas (Ben Holtzmuller).
As affairs do, this one doesn’t go well. Anna gets pregnant, Nicholas dumps her, and all the while the specter of the Witch (Lorayn DeLuca), who wants Anna’s child, haunts Anna. Will she end up claiming the baby? Or can Anna escape her once and for all?
Release Date
Heir of the Witch starts streaming everywhere on August 4.

Check-In
What would you ask Victoria Bell about this movie and/or her heritage? (I may get to speak with her, so I’m collecting questions!)
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
