Themed cocktails. Macabre magic. Sinister séances. Tarot readings. Strange roaming specters. Live music. Hidden secret games. Giant Ouija boards. Plus more. Such as, it all takes place in a haunted mansion. Sound like an evening you’d like to attend? Let’s take a look at the three cities where you can partake in a House of Spirits event.
What is House of Spirits?
House of Spirits describes itself as “a haunted cocktail soirée” and invites visitors to “step inside…a home to all things mysterious, magical, and macabre.”
It takes place in three cities during the following dates:
- Los Angeles, California: September 25 – October 31, 2021
- Dallas, Texas: October 2–31, 2021
- New York, New York: October 8–31, 2021
Each home —or mansion— has a “history of darkness” to set the stage. (We’ll get into each of this year’s histories in a moment.)
For approximately two hours, guests get to “freely roam a mysterious mansion” while they enjoy four miniature cocktails, which are included with the admission price. (You get five if you purchase the VIP tickets.)
To me, it sounds like a higher-end pop-up bar with a haunted/Halloween theme, which all-in-all sounds pretty spooktacular. Aside from the fact that my alcohol allergy prevents me from drinking.
Still, I’d love to “step into a world of phantasmic refinement” and “witness secret ceremonies,” as is described on one of the location’s ticket and event info pages.
House of Spirits Locations
Actual houses are used for each location. Such as the Alexander Mansion in Dallas. It’s currently the home to the Dallas Woman’s Forum, which rents out the building for events.
Or the York Manor in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles. It’s a private event and wedding space —or was. Its Instagram says it has closed its doors forever, but House of Spirits lists it as the California location. Guess that mystery will be solved come September 25.
The New York location doesn’t have a name for its mansion. It’s just called a 5 story mansion and, like the houses in the other cities, includes an address.
A History of Darkness
As mentioned above, the locations have different backstories. Well, basically. Two share the same one. Here are their descriptions:
Los Angeles
The resident spirits focus their tale on the demise of the Vasiliev family, at the hands of the unholy ‘miracle man’, Volkov. Inspired by the real life history of Russian holy-man Rasputin and the Romanov royal family, House of Spirits weaves a disquieting and original story with riffs on classic Russian/Scandinavian folktales that are certain to leave guests delightfully chilled.
Dallas and New York
Experience the haunting tale of Molly and Francisco Vega, a young couple who lost their baby during childbirth. Francisco focuses his grief into art and begins a series of disturbing paintings, while Molly’s grief drives her to a much darker place. Loosely based on the life and artwork of famous Spanish painter Francisco Goya, House of Spirits weaves a disquieting and interactive storyline certain to leave guests delightfully chilled.
House of Spirits Dress Code
There isn’t a hard and fast dress code that says, “If you don’t wear X, you won’t be admitted.” They do, however, encourage guests to “dress in time period fashion, costume or elegant dress.”
House of Spirits Cost
Each location offers two ticket types, Standard and VIP. Ticket prices vary by location as follows:
- Los Angeles: $55 Standard, $77 VIP
- Dallas: $53 Standard, $74.20 VIP
- New York: $59 Standard, $82.60 VIP

Check-In
Does stepping into a world of phantasmic refinement and witnessing secret ceremonies sound fun to you too, or too fancy for your tastes?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
The Goya artist story House of Spirits sounds so interesting. A haunted house cocktail party is such a creative idea!
I 100% agree with your comment!!! lol
