Spooky shadow hand with Prime Day Prime Video deals
2023 Prime Day Deals include subscriptions to AMC+, which allows you to watch shows like Interview with a Vampire and The Walking Dead: Dead City and featured Shudder content like Chucky and the horror anthology series Slasher. A Paramount+ subscription includes access to Showtime’s popular series Yellowjackets.

More and more, I find myself drawn to Prime Video when I’m looking for a horror fix. That’s why some of the Prime Day 2023 deals caught my eye. In addition to movie rentals and purchases, some Prime Video Channels have deals this year too.

Before we unpack which movies and channels have deals, let’s briefly cover what Prime is —including Prime Video and Prime Day. That way, we’re all on the same page, lingo-wise.

Prime Video

Here are a few reasons why I find Prime Video an increasingly attractive option for streaming horror:

  1. All the free (with ads) horror on Freevee, an Amazon service. You don’t even need a Prime Video subscription, just an Amazon account.
  2. Prime Originals, which you do need a Prime Video subscription for.
  3. Access to Prime Video Channels specializing in horror, including Shudder, Screambox, and Monsters & Nightmares. (They’re separate monthly subscriptions and not included in Prime Video. But they’re all right there in one handy place if you subscribe to them.)

Some of the horror titles on Freevee right now include Freaky, Creepshow III, Howl, Come Play, Disturbing Behavior, Hostel, and The Blair Witch Project.

However, if you have a Prime Video subscription, that grants you access to even more horror, including newer releases like M3gan and Smile, and Amazon Original series like The Horror of Dolores Roach (which just launched) and Class of ’07 (which I’m surprised not more people are talking about).

But there are other fantastic Amazon Original series that aren’t necessarily horror, but that have an edge to them, like Outer Range, Night Sky, Carnival Row, The Wheel of Time, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Any of those are worth the subscription price —or worthy of at least trying the free 30-day Prime Video trial.

The generous free trial period gives you a chance to see if you like Prime Video and if it would be something you’d watch. (Plus, it gives you plenty of time to binge at least a few of the series you most want to see and then cancel if need be.)

After the free trial, it costs $8.99 a month (plus taxes).

But Prime Video is included with a Prime membership. Let’s look at why that’s really the best way to go.

Prime Subscription

Generally, a Prime subscription works best if you make at least one online purchase a month. (Maybe not even that frequently, with how expensive shipping’s gotten.) But, truly, the free shipping alone is worth it.

However, as Amazon explains, “Prime is multiple memberships rolled into one.” In addition to the fast, free delivery on millions of items, you also get exclusive savings and Prime Video.

And just like the Prime Video membership, you can also try Amazon Prime free for 30 days. And as a Prime member, you can take advantage of Prime Day.

After the free trial, it’s $14.99/month.

But that’s why I think it’s such a good deal. I know I’d spend at least $10/month in shipping alone on items I need. (Okay, yes, and, in some cases, just simply want.)

But to also have access to all kinds of movies and shows, everything from new releases to Amazon Originals and older stuff? It just feels like an amazing bonus!

Oh, and I’d be remiss not to mention that a Prime membership also opens up Subscribe & Save discounts for recurring items you buy. I use it for vitamins, spices, and even our refrigerator filters. It saves me 5% on those purchases. But the more you subscribe, the more you save —up to 15%!

Prime Day

This year, Prime Day is happening July 11-12. And the only way to get exclusive savings and deals is to be a Prime member. Among the deals this year are movie rentals and purchases and channel subscriptions.

If I’m honest with myself (which is a rarity), the last thing I need is another subscription service. I blame all the ones I do have on FOMO. (See? There I go again, not being honest with myself. If I were, I would just admit I’m a streaming addict.)

FROM was why I ended up breaking down and subscribing to MGM+ on Prime Video. (It was totally worth it, though. Sadly, MGM+ doesn’t have a Prime Day Deal.)

Paramount+

I was desperate to see Scream 6 and Bodies Bodies Bodies, so last weekend, I signed up for the free seven-day trial of Paramount+ Prime Video Channel. To my surprise, that also granted me access to the Showtime Original, Yellowjackets, as well as to other horror movies like X, Pearl, Men, and more.

But now I’m kicking myself because Paramount+ is one of the channels with a Prime Day Deal. I had no idea they might be part of all that. I canceled my subscription and will try to claim the deal if Amazon will let me. (But I have a feeling I’m no longer eligible since I had just started the trial. Drat.)

The regular subscription price is $11.99/month (plus taxes.) It’s half off for two months with the Prime Day Deal.

AMC+

At least I didn’t start the seven-day trial on AMC+ yet. That’s the other Channel I’ve wanted because it has AMC shows like Interview with a Vampire and The Walking Dead: Dead City.

However, an AMC+ subscription also includes access to Shudder exclusives and originals, which is why I’m psyched to sign up for it for Prime Day. Not only will I save some money, but it’s just in time for the release of Sharksploitation on July 11!

Speaking of Shudder, for $5.99/month, you can subscribe just to it if you don’t want AMC+. (It doesn’t have a Prime Day Deal, nor does Screambox or Monsters & Nightmares.)

But the regular AMC+ subscription costs $8.99/month (plus taxes). It’s also half off for two months with the Prime Day Deal.

Other Prime Video Prime Day Deals

Prime Day 2023 Deals on Movies

Honestly, I’m still trying to figure out which movies have Prime Day Deals. From my computer, I’m able to see the following tabs at the top in Prime Video: Home, Store, Live TV, Free with ads, Categories, My Stuff.

The Store tab has drop-down options, one of which is Deals. It’s not exclusively for Prime Day, though. It’s mostly for Prime Member deals, but it also includes a Featured Prime Member Deals section with blue backgrounds and the “Prime Day Deals” label. Evil Dead Rise is the only horror movie in that section, though. Prime Members can buy it for $9.99. (Marked down from $19.99.)

Speaking of Prime Members…

Are you a Prime member? If so, do you plan to take advantage of the Prime Day 2023 Deals?

  1. Yes, we’re Prime members, and yes, we plan to take advantage of deals!

  2. Author

WAHOOO!!! I don’t normally participate in Prime Day but this year I’m def getting AMC+ (and hopefully Paramount+ again if Amazon will let me). LOL There may be a few other things too. We’ll see… (As much as I’d love to shop for more Halloween stuff, I actually need some things for around the house, like a new pillow for Wayne and our front foyer is desperate for a new rug that coordinates with our new paint and doesn’t look ratty and worn like our old one, which we love but its time has definitely come. Aaaaand that was probably TMI. Sorry, Vera!)

  3. The only streaming service I have is Discovery+. I own a NAS (home streaming device with 22 TB of space), and I own thousands upon thousands of movies and TV shows, mostly horror, sci-fi, and crime/action. I also have 6 or 7 external hard drives for extra stuff (old favorite shows) that I save for rainy days, like Warehouse 13 and Eureka and Tales From the Crypt). But like I mentioned in another one of your posts, if they do away with Ghostober and the shows that are tied to it and shows like it in the future, I will be cancelling my membership forever. Just GA and Paranormal Caught on Camera will NOT be enough to keep me on as a customer any longer. Sorry, but four different versions of 90-Day Fiancé doesn’t cut it in my book. I absolutely abhor those kinds of shows, and so does my wife! She likes True Crime, like you Courtney and shows with real police interrogations and bounty hunters raids and such. Those cheesy love match shows are not our cup of tea, and if that’s the way Travel Channel, or more specifically, Discovery+ is going, then we will have to find another streaming service.

From all that you mentioned above, I still haven’t made up my mind up of which one or two will scratch our itches best if it comes to that. Well, a couple more months and we will have our verdict about Ghostober, and hopefully, by then we will know which direction to go. As it stands right now, just regular everyday YouTube has the most enticing shows on it, and that is where we’re going to be launching our own ghost shows, as well, within the next year.

One more thing … Project Fear was so, SO much better than when they were on TV under the scrutiny and pressure of a network. They were more free and more comfortable with themselves. They were happy, content, and they looked comfortable in their own skins. Their investigative techniques were so much more professional, and they were also so much funnier and entertaining. 100% better all the way around. They even used an SB-7 spirit box, which they mentioned they were never allowed to use on the show because the producers told them that “someone” had made it famous so they were disallowed from using it on their show. Anyhow, great article! I enjoyed reading it! And now, I am waiting for Ghostober or not, before I decide my next move. Take care, Courtney!

So glad (and a bit surprised!) to hear watched Project Fear, Troy. BUT I’m glad you gave them a chance and ended up liking a few things about it even. (I remember from past comments you didn’t really care for Destination Fear, so that’s why I was a little surprised you watched their YT. lol)

Yes. Not much longer now and we’ll know the fate of Ghostober… lol BUT did hear about a show that will come out on Canada’s equivalent, Creep Week. So there’s some hope it will be back with some new content this year. Who knows though.

Discovery+ still has lots of True Crime for your wife, doesn’t it Troy? I canceled because I can get what I like via Max so no sense paying for it elsewhere. lol
