Meow Wolf, an arts and entertainment collective in Santa Fe, New Mexico, launched their first permanent installment, House of Eternal Return, in 2016 with the help of Games of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.

The House of Eternal Return dwells within an “unassuming building” in Santa Fe’s industrial district. Visitors explore an immersive art installation filled with technology, colorful and unexpected environments, and portals that lead to fantastic dimensions.

Meow Wolf describes it as “a collaboration of over 100 local artists” that is “a unique combination of children’s museum, art gallery, jungle gym, and fantasy novel.”

This 20,000 square foot art exhibit consists of dozens of rooms, secret passages and interactive light and musical objects that guests can play with as long as they like –and they can investigate the mystery of the Selig family.

The Selig Family Mystery

The storyline centers around the Selig family and what happened to them. Visitors explore their Victorian mansion where the family disappeared after conducting forbidden experiments –experiments that “dissolved the nature of time and space.”

What were the experiments? Is that why there are now figures in white lab coats everywhere in the house?

By journeying through one of the house’s many portals, will you solve the mystery of the Selig Family? Perhaps discovering where they went? Will tracking the house’s anomalies answer any questions?

The Anomaly Tracker

Meow Wolf’s Anomly Tracker app enhances the visitor experience. Investigator’s are rewarded with clues that delve deeper into the House of Eternal Return’s mystery. All they have to do is point their device at a target to unlock secret’s from the Selig family’s past.

The Anomaly Tracker can apparently also be used outside the exhibit, too.

It’s not a free app, though. It costs $4.99. It’s available on both the App Store and Google Play.

Have you visited an immersive art experience?

Most are more of a pop-up/temporary nature, which is what makes Meow Wolf’s permanent House of Eternal Return installation so exciting. At least to me. I went to one in Nashville, the OtherWorld Encounter, and had a blast. Meow Wolf’s looks even more impressive! Plus, it reminds me of Stranger Things –just a more colorful and eclectic version. (And without any demogorgons!)
