When we first created our Haunted Places section (which has been several years back now), we had big plans for it. Trouble was, our initial vision also entailed big work…that we never got around to.
Until now…
With a few tweaks, of course. What we first foresaw has now evolved into something a smidgen different.
HJ Lists of Spooky Stays
We renamed the Haunted Hotels lists that we created to:
- HJ’s List of Spooky Stays (U.S.)
- HJ’s List of Spooky Stays (International)
We’re also in the process of cleaning up/reorganizing both of these pages. We didn’t like the layout. They weren’t easy on the eyes. Not on our eyes at any rate, so we figured probably not on other people’s peepers either.
Plus, we wanted to do more than just list haunted hotels. Where applicable, we’re now listing the following underneath each spooky stay:
- The hotel’s link with any information they have about their ghosts.
- An HJ link, if we’ve written about it.
- A “Book It!” link (“Boo” emphasized, get it?) to help you book your spooky stay via our affiliate, Expedia.
Our next major project with be adding something else under each spooky stay: links to other blogs, sites, or articles that have written about them. More on that to come in another post, though.
Haunted Places Category Posts
In case you’re new to Haunt Jaunts, we don’t always like to do things the easy way around here. It’s not that we prefer or enjoy the hard way. It’s just that we’re slow on the uptake.
We finally figured out how to turn pages into a list of our posts. (Yeah, we were going to manually add to each page every time we wrote about a certain subject. That’s why our Haunted Places sub-categories stayed bare all these years…not only are we slow; we’re lazy!)
Anyway, we knew there had to be an easier way. We finally figured out it has to do with making behind-the-scenes tweaks. We simply select “Category” when adding a new page to our menu, pick the category and voilá! All posts appear on that page. WHOOP!
So now each of the following sections features posts we’ve written about:
- Eerie Eateries & Pubs
- Historic Haunts
- Spooky Stays
- Poltergeist Parks
It will also keep us more honest when writing in the future, because we’ll be more aware to write specifically about places that can fall into the above categories. (We’ve been a little haphazard about that in recent years.)
We have a category or two we’d also like to add to the above (like Haunted Mansions and Haunted Prisons), but that will require going back and adding some new tags so….
For now we’ll be happy with the changes we’ve made, the other ones we’ve got in the works, and we’ll hope it’s all adding up to a more pleasurable visit for you to our site.
Let us know what you think.
And if you have any suggestions, comments or concerns, feel free to leave them below or send them to us via the form on our Contact Us page. Thanks!
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
