Prior to launching the Haunt Jaunts podcast, I had talked with Kristy Sumner of Soul Sisters Paranormal about the Ma Barker House –via email at least. But in February I had the pleasure of talking with her twice –in the same week!
The first time was with my A Haunt Mess co-hosts, Sara and Deedee.
Then a couple days later she talked with me again for Haunt Jaunts!
I delayed the release of the episode, though, because it can get overwhelming promoting stuff you’ve been on if you do a lot in a short amount of time. (So I’ve heard, at least. I’ve not had the pleasure of that problem personally. I’m taking it on authority from those who have.)
Also, I didn’t want to compete with my Haunt Mess ghoulfiends.
So I waited.
But now I can share my great chat with Kristy. What did we talk about?
The women of Soul Sisters Paranormal are smart, all have a law enforcement background and apply it to their style of ghost hunting. How do research-minded academics approach paranormal investigating?
Similar to other paranormal investigators, but this well educated, all female team does a lot of pre-research, focusing on history and caring about the humanness of the alleged restless spirits that may remain in the haunted places they’re investigating.
Basically, we talked about how Kristy and her group got into the paranormal, some of the haunted places they’ve been to, their philosophies and more.
That is, once I got my head on straight. I was a little more scattered than usual to start. But once I got myself sorted, that was about the time I started having technical difficulties.
Luckily, Kristy rolled with all the hiccups. As you’ll see, she’s a wonderful person, a knowledgeable speaker, and it all ended up being a fantastic chat!

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
