Late 2021-Early 2022 Horror Movies: 5 Must-Watch Trailers

Do you ever wake up the day after Halloween with either a Halloween hangover —or, worse, the Halloween Blues? One way I’ve found to combat both is by anticipating horror movies that are coming soon. Because even though Halloween is over, and, technically, scary season is too, luckily horror movies keep on coming!

So what looks good for the rest of 2021 and the first part of 2022? There are close to 30 horror movies releasing on various platforms in November 2021 alone. Including The Deep House on EPIX on Nov. 5, but it will also be in select theaters too. (I already thought it had hit EPIX but clearly I was mistaken. This is another one I’ve been anticipating!)

However, there are five other horror movies in particular whose trailers I feel are must-watch-worthy. The majority are for franchises we’re already familiar with, but there are a couple of original movies coming out too. Check ’em out.

1. Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Releases in theaters on Nov. 19.

The pandemic may have delayed the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife a couple of times, but I think it’s only heightened everyone’s anticipation for it. It’s maybe not technically a horror movie (IMDB lists it as a comedy fantasy), but ghosts and hellhounds fall into the horror realm so it made this list.

Plus, it’s a fun trailer and looks like it’s going to be the sequel Ghostbusters fan have been waiting for. The wait to find out is almost over!

2. Black Christmas

Releases in theaters on Nov. 19.

The holidays can be stressful. I don’t know about you, but horror helps me cope. So does comedy. Pairing the two just amps up the healing power, doesn’t it? Black Friday looks like it might deliver with its combo of zombies overrunning a toy store on Black Friday and Bruce Campbell thrown in for good measure.

And I just have to say, the trailer did the trick. What the heck could the zombie shoppers possibly be assembling in a toy store? Now I want to see just to find out! (Plus, who am I kidding? I’m a sucker for a zombie movie!)

3. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

Releases in theaters on Nov. 24.

When I heard about this movie my first thought was, “Please don’t let it be animated.” Not that there’s anything wrong with animated films. I enjoy those too. But I couldn’t get into Netflix’s Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

However, five seconds into the trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, my hopes were up. This looks like a good addition to the Resident Evil franchise! Fingers crossed it is.

4. Scream 5

Releases in theaters on Jan. 14, 2022.

Most of the time I’m not thrilled to hear when a horror franchise puts out yet another sequel. Scream has proven to be among the exceptions. (Resident Evil too.) None have ever compared to the original, but a couple have at least been fun reunions with the main characters. Scream 5 looks like it brings them back along with new faces and a twist on the familiar storyline.

My only reservation is its January release. Historically January horror movie releases are stinkers. But, there have been exceptions to that rule. Here’s hoping Scream 5 is among them.

5. The Black Phone

Releases in theaters on Feb. 4, 2022.

I understand Hollywood wants to make money and franchises are usually safe (or at least safer) bets for them, but I think most horror movie fans agree: we’re craving new and different, not just remakes or variations on a previous theme. That’s why The Black Phone caught my eye. It looks terrifying, intriguing, and heartbreaking, but best of all unique!

I mean, we have seen the stranger danger child snatcher theme before, but not ever quite like this. Here’s hoping the movie is as good as the trailer hypes it up to be.
