In honor of my birthday today, my friend Jeanine sent me my gift: a link to a JibJab sendable. It had an image next to it, with my picture (pre-chemo, back when I had hair) on it. Her note to me was: “Welcome to your own personal scary movie! I just crack myself up! I thought you would appreciate this in theme with your fixation on the horror movies and haunted houses!”
I didn’t now what to expect, but J-9 (as I affectionately call her) is hysterical. Plus, I love JibJab stuff. I figured it must be pretty good.
Basically, pasted-face me meets Gorgon the Destroyer. It brought to mind my confession about how I act in haunted houses. (The actor my face is pasted on let’s out some impressive screams, but not as good as the one’s I can belt out! Plus, I become a freaking Olympic runner world record breaker if I encounter anything terrifying. I wouldn’t have just stood there. I have a very healthy flight or fight reaction!)
But to see myelf get gobbled up…holy crumb, what a laugh! Besides eating cake, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than with a good old-fashioned belly laugh.
J-9, thanks again for making me a star…and for cracking me up!

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
