I’m excited to introduce a brand new page in the Find Cons & Events family: Halloween & Haunted House Events.
But I have to admit, the name is a bit misleading. Halloween haunted houses is right there in the name, but it doesn’t list Halloween Halloween haunted houses.
“What are you talking about, Courtney? Why would you call it Halloween then?”
Well, you can find Halloween parties (when I find some to list; currently I don’t know of any), and you can find haunted houses of the Halloween variety –just off-season ones.
Blame Cupid & Santa
It all started with Valentine’s Day and Christmastime haunted houses. For the last several years, I’ve noticed more and more haunted houses opening on Valentine’s Day and Christmas.
If I can (meaning if I have time and am on top of things), I like to write posts highlighting which ones will be open. (Some years I get this done, some years not.)
This year when I started updating the Ghost Tours & Ghost Hunting Events page, I included haunted houses opening for Valentine’s Day. But I noticed a lot had other upcoming pre-Halloween openings for other holidays or times of year, such as Spring Break, summer, or Friday the 13th.
At first I listed them all under a Seasonal section on the Ghost Tours page, with subsections for the various themes (Valentine’s Day, Easter, etc.).
However, it dawned on me as I was making sure I had all the St. Patrick’s ones that, yikes. This page is getting a little crazy and confusing with the haunted houses mixing with the ghost tours. Hard to read. (And if it was hard for me, I knew it’d be hard for visitors. What kind of host would I be inviting people to my site only to confuse or frustrate them? I’ll tell you: A bad one. No thanks.)
A Page of Its Own
So that’s why I decided to break it off and have it be its own page.
It works like all the other pages. You can find haunted houses by month, state, or type.
Under Type you’ll find two kinds:
- Holidays
- Other
Holidays include:
- Christmas (As of this post, currently none are listed. That’ll change as the year progresses.)
- Easter
- Friday the 13th (Not really a “holiday,” per se, but it’s on our Weird Holidays & Observances so it seemed okay. Also, it balances out the table between Holidays & Others making it an even five on each side.)
- St. Patrick’s Day
- Valentine’s Day
Other includes:
- Camps (Yes! There will be some summer camp-themed haunted house open this summer, including one that’s overnight!)
- Halloween Parties (Again, nothing currently listed. I’ll add ’em as I find ’em.)
- Spring Break (Ghouls Gone Wild! No. Seriously. There’s really a haunted house with that as its theme name! Isn’t that too fun?)
- Summer
- Miscellaneous
As noted above besides a couple of the types, this page will experience ongoing updates. But there’s enough there already to officially launch it and welcome it to the HJ family of cons and events!
Check-in
Do you like Halloween-style haunted houses? (Or are you a bawk-bawk chicken butt like me?)
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
