Overnight Ghost Hunt for Anniversary of the Tate Murders

In August 1969, America was shocked by one of the most disturbing and bizarre string of murders it had ever seen. Our news today might call what happened back then a “deadly home invasion.” For starters. Not sure what other sensational wordsmithery some clever journalist might concoct to describe it.

What happened 48 years ago?

It started the night of August 9, 1969 when Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Steven Parent, Wojciech Frykowski and Abigail Folger were murdered at 10050 Cielo Drive in Los Angeles, California by members of the Manson Family. (And would continue the next night with the murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.)

Helter Skelter

Four members of the Manson Family, under orders by Charles Manson, went to 10050 Cielo Drive, most likely looking to kill record producer Terry Melcher.

Melcher had lived in the home on Cielo Drive when Manson visited him there in an attempt to get a recording contract. But Melcher, in Manson’s eyes, snubbed him. There was to be no deal.

Manson was out for revenge. Or so is the popular theory among many law enforcement officers who worked the case.

Instead, Tex Watson, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabian, and Patricia Krenwinkel ended up viciously murdering a pregnant Sharon Tate and her friends.

What Happened to the Home?

10050 Cielo Drive no longer exists. It was demolished in 1994.

However, a new home was built on the property. It was also given a new address: 10066 Cielo Drive.

Ghostly Neighbor

In 1999, David Oman and his father purchased a plot on Cielo Drive and began building a house of their own.

From the beginning, David experienced voices and footsteps when he shouldn’t have. Meaning, he was alone in the house. Sort of.

It didn’t take him long to figure out something else was there. Especially when he woke up one night to a full-bodied apparition standing at his bed. (Which he later identified as resembling Jay Sebring, one of the Tate Murder victims.)

Oman House Ghost Hunts

David Oman is very open about the paranormal activity in his home. If you’re a fan of ghost hunting TV shows, you’ve likely seen him. His home has been investigated by them all.

Ghost Hunters, My Ghost Story, Paranormal Witness, Haunted History, Ghost Adventures and Ghost Adventures After Shocks…The Oman House aka ‘The Mount Everest of Haunted Houses’ and ‘The Disneyland for the Dead’ (according to Barry Taff)…

He even obliged us by being on our radio show! (It’s still in our show archives on ParaMania Radio’s site.)

But you don’t need to have a TV show to go investigate. David often hosts ghost hunting events that he opens to the public. Which he’s doing the weekend preceding the 48th anniversary of the murders.
