Under the Rules for the Pick a Pin Contest, I specified that winners would be chosen on April 15. Which they were. I did the drawing two days ago.
However, I never said that’s when they’d be announced. Which was good, since I wasn’t able to put the video together until today. (Something I like to do to prove that, yes indeedy, I really do enter names in, and draw them from, the Boo Bucket.)
I had something specific in mind I wanted to do using the green screen, something I hadn’t used in a while.
Well, using the green screen was easy. It was editing the background that held me up. I used to do it every week when I made the Haunted Headlines videos, but that’s been a minute. There was a learning curve to navigate again. I wasn’t expecting to have already forgotten so much. Luckily there were plenty of resources to refresh my memory.
Anyway, after a bit of a kerfuffle with all that, I’m happy to say the video is up and I’ve been in touch with the winners.
The video is at the end of this post if you want to watch. For a quick recap, and to hear about my fortunate mishap with the Boo Bucket, scroll on…

The Invisible Boo Bucket
When I first was researching green screens and how to use them, almost every “Tip for Beginners” that I read mentioned “Make sure you don’t wear anything green unless you want to disappear.”
That’s easy enough for me. My wardrobe consists of four primary colors: pink, red, white and black. Not that I have anything against green. It’s just not a color I’m drawn to in clothing.
Now accessories and such, on the other hand, are an entirely different matter. Exhibit A: The Boo Bucket
I wasn’t even thinking about it being green when I put together the video using the green screen. At first I was like, “Oh no!” when I saw what had happened. Which is that the bucket disappeared.
But then I was like, “Aw hell, just roll with it. Now it really looks like a boo bucket…an invisible one!”
Here’s some stills showing what I mean:
Anyway, just some silliness I thought it’d be fun to share.
Thanks so much to everyone who entered.

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
congratulations to all you lucky devils LOL…..I hope you use the green screen and boo bucket in the future. I thought it was pretty cool (invisible).
Debra, your comments ALWAYS make my day, but the fact you liked my “whoops” with the Boo Bucket too? Love! So glad to know someone else thought it turned out cool too!
