Podcast Chat: The US Ghost Adventures Lizzie Borden House Acquisition

Court had a great chat with Azure Hall (left) from US Ghost Adventures about the Lizzie Borden House and Museum acquisition.

Earlier this year, you may have heard how US Ghost Adventures bought the Lizzie Borden House & Museum. Last year I had the pleasure of speaking with Josef Kruger, a project manager for USGA, about some fun things the company was doing at that time. Recently he reached out and asked if I’d like to talk with anyone about the company’s Lizzie Borden House acquisition.

Yes! Absolutely!

The funny thing was, I had been thinking about approaching him and asking if he’d like to/could talk about it. He beat me to it and hooked me up with Azure Hall, the communications director for US Ghost Adventures.

Azure and I had a great chat about the Lizzie Borden House acquisition and what sort of things the company has planned for the property. Which, spoiler, yes! They do still plan to operate it as a B&B!

In fact, they plan to keep it pretty much the same. In addition to still operating as a spooky stay, they’ll keep the museum aspect too. But they’d also like to expand and add on a few things. Here’s a brief summary of what we talked about.

After the Acquisition: Plans for the Lizzie Borden House & Museum

Azure explained that they don’t have all of the details hashed out yet. They’re still in the process of transitioning, but they are planning on doing something special for the Fall/Halloween season.

They’re also looking to do something more with the ghost tours. One of the things they’re considering is dedicating a room to having a permanent live stream. For a small fee, armchair ghost hunters and/or the para curious could watch for paranormal activity any time they want.

Another activity they’re considering incorporating onto the property is axe throwing, which, as Azure noted, “is a little on the nose.” But axe throwing has grown into a “thing.” Where I live, there is at least three axe throwing venues around Middle Tennessee, and there are even axe throwing leagues!

The Haunted History

I also asked if she had any good and/or favorite ghost stories, from either the house or any of the guides she works with. She did share that after buying Lizzie’s house, USGA’s owner slept in Lizzie’s bedroom, which is known to be an active hot spot. Even though he was the only one in the house, he heard footsteps coming from the floor above him. But it was okay. He still got a good night’s rest.

Azure shared that footsteps are just one of the things people experience in that room, along with being touched and children laughing. I had to ask about that because I knew Lizzie Borden never had kids. Where had the ghost children come from?

That’s when I learned another sad history concerning the house. Before Lizzie’s family had lived there, one of her relatives had. The wife had killed her two children, who often played on the third floor, before taking her own life.

I admitted that while I’m of course acquainted with the story of Lizzie Borden, I’m not well versed in the whole history —or the hauntings. But Azure said many are, and that’s why some often bring toys for the ghost children.

In fact, US Ghost Adventures even introduced them to their Lily doll. And after she was brought up, my Lily had to make an appearance. (According to the instructions that came with her, she’s supposed to be stashed away at this time of the year. But I think she likes hanging out behind me on the bookshelf while I work as much as I like her hanging out there.)

You can’t talk about US Ghost Adventures without Lily coming up in the conversation, can you? (Lily says, “NO!”)

The Giveaway

I also asked Azure about the Lizzie Borden giveaway they’re running and how people can enter to win a 2-night stay at the property. Which, just to recap, is easy: all you have to do is book a ghost tour in one of the over 30 cities they now offer tours in and use the code “Borden” to enter.

  1. I haven’t tried axe-throwing, but my daughter went to a couple’s engagement party, and they had an axe throwing competition. I guess it’s getting more popular. It looks difficult to me, but I’d be willing to give it a try!

  2. Axe throwing for “entertainment” at a location where two human beings were brutally murdered by an axe wielding assailant? How disrespectful, disgusting and despicable can they possibly be to think this is appropriate?

See? You’re smart. I had no humility. I thought, “How hard can it be?” I got my answer. Not as easy as I thought it looked! lol I would like to try again though.

I am SO glad you left this comment. I was thinking more people would have this reaction and have kind of been surprised they haven’t. Thanks for taking the time to share it!
