Portals to Hell season 2 premieres on March 20 when new episodes begin streaming on discovery+. Among them are “Hotel Monte Vista” and “McCormick Farm,” which is a special two-hour episode.
I had a chance to screen both episodes ahead of the release date, but I only had time to watch the McCormick Ranch one. I grew up in Colorado. It piqued my interest because I hadn’t ever heard of serial killers Michael McCormick or his father, Tom, before. Tom was never tried but Mike was convicted in connection with the death of 60-year-old Herbert Donoho.
Mike McCormick ended up leading investigators to Donoho’s body, and then in an attempt for leniency, he showed them where to find the bodies of other men he said his father had murdered. They only recovered the remains of three bodies, but they guesstimate there could be between 15-17, if not more.
Both McCormicks have since passed, but the people who have owned the land since 1985, Chuck and Leslie Clapper, have always noticed strange things happening. Lately, the activity has gotten more bothersome though, so Jack and Katrina arrive to try and see what they can figure out.
After learning the farm’s history and listening to the types of activity the Clappers (especially Leslie) and some of their employees are experiencing, Jack asks, “What if a killer can stalk you from beyond the grave?”
It’s a fair question and what they set out to investigate.
What do they discover? Is the McCormick Ranch a portal to hell?
No spoilers here, but I will say if you’re a fan of the show, this episode has some interesting moments.
As Katrina put it, she won’t ever forget the McCormick Farm.

Are you a fan of Portals to Hell? If so, which investigation has intrigued you most so far?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I definitely believe a serial killer can stalk you from beyond the grave, but only if they are aware of their surroundings (an intelligent haunting).
It seemed bad enough to be stalked by one in life. I hadn’t even pondered the possibility after death. But why not? As you point out, as long as their spirit is aware and intelligent…it could happen. GULP!
