Rotten Tomatoes is getting into the Halloween spirit with curated horror watchlists. But they’re also offering some creepy-cool horror-themed gift cards redeemable at Fandango and Vudu. All of this is well-timed, considering a lot of scary movies are releasing in theaters and/or becoming available to stream. Let’s check it out.
Rotten Tomatoes Halloween and Scary Movies Watchlists
Throughout the month of October, Rotten Tomatoes will release new lists. However, they recommend you start with their Fall Horror Movie Preview. It lists the newest releases heading to theaters and streaming platforms, including some of Fall’s most anticipated movies like A Haunting In Venice, The Exorcist: Believer, and Five Nights At Freddy’s.
You can also sample horror from around the world with their best French, Korean, or Italian horror movie lists. And for family-friendly viewing, check out their picks for the best kids Halloween movies,
Or maybe you’re feeling nostalgic or want to travel back in time and experience horror from another decade. No problem. They’ve got you covered there too, with listings of the best horror movies in different decades. The link will take you to their Best Horror Movies of the ’50s, but within that post, you’ll find handy links to the other decades.
Vudu Horror Movie Deals
Vudu, Fandango’s on-demand streaming service, makes watching new releases easy. Even better, they’re offering horror movie deals for Halloween season, which includes titles like Annabelle, M3GAN, The Cabin in The Woods, NOPE, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Happy Death Day, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and many more. You’ll find it all under Vudu’s “Big Shop of Horrors” section.
Fandango and Vudu Horror-Themed Gift Cards
Anyone can give a boring old generic gift card, but I like it when companies offer you options of different styles. That’s what Fandango and Vudu are doing with their Halloween and horror-themed gift cards.
Fandango’s includes choices like the one at the top of this post. (Which is actually animated on their site. The zombie arm pops up from the bucket of popcorn.) But they also have cards from some of 2023’s biggest releases, including The Exorcist: Believer, Saw X, and A Haunting in Venice.
Vudu’s digital gift cards also offer choices of movie-inspired card choices, including newer movies like The Blackening, Insidious: The Red Door, M3GAN, and Smile. But they also have some classic movie choices like Scream, Beetlejuice, and Nightmare on Elm Street.

What’s your favorite decade of horror movies?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I think the ’60s had the best horror movies. There were Psycho, Night of the Living Dead, and Rosemary’s Baby.
Rotten Tomatoes: Among the 60’s offerings, Comedy of Terrors is funny and the Raven is fun. I recommend both.
Before looking at their picks for best horror movies, I would’ve told you the 60s was my least favorite decade for them. Not even close. In addition to the three you mentioned, it also had 3 others I really like: The Birds, Village of the Damned, and Children of the Damned. That’s a lot of quality horror!
