Scream 5 mock up

Scream 5 is really happening, but when can we expect to watch Ghostface’s return and who will he be tormenting this time?

Scream is one of my all-time favorite horror movies. I remember being a little shocked when Scream 2 came out, but horror movie sequels for successful films are the thing to do, right?

Except…really? With Scream? Some movies lend themselves to sequels more naturally than others. Scream’s ending was so final. Where were they going to go with it?

It wasn’t actually too bad as sequels go, though. Not as great as the first one, but it was fun spending time with the survivors of the original, again.

However, then Scream 3 came along. Please. Stop.

Someone got the message for several years. Scream 4 didn’t appear until 2011, 15 years after the original, and 11 years after what was supposed to be the last in the trilogy.

It was better than Scream 3, but maybe not as good as Scream 2 and definitely not as good as the movie that started it all.

It’s been nine years since Scream 4 premiered. I guess that means it’s time to resurrect Ghostface because that’s what’s happening.

Scream 5 Release Date

According to a post on Bloody Disgusting, Scream 5 is slated to release in theaters on January 14, 2022.

Which, uh oh.

First of all, will there be theaters by then? Surely the coronavirus will be a thing of the past and theaters will have reopened by 2022, right? But will theaters be able to survive until then? I hope so. Scream 5 is one I’d paid to go see in a theater…as long as it was safe to do so.

Second, and maybe more concerning: It’ll be a January release. Historically, January is jinxed when it comes to horror movies. Mostly stinkers are released then. Not always, but more often than good horror movies.

I’ll still go see it though. Maybe that’s what they’re banking on. Diehard fans.

Scream 5 Cast

Who will be in it? Any of the original Scream characters who have been in all the rest?

Basically.

Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott. Courteney Cox returns as Gale Weathers. And David Arquette is back as Dewey Riley.

New castmates include Jack Quaid (The Boys), Kyle Gallner (The Cleansing Hour), Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Dylan Minette (13 Reasons Why), and Marley Shelton as Deputy Judy Hicks.

Scream 5 Storyline

There’s not a lot of information yet, but here’s the description on IMDB:

A new installment of the ‘Scream’ horror franchise will follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.

Scream Series Tweets

On Twitter, @TheScreamSeries has started sharing Tweets about Scream 5, including the announcement that it’s really happening and first look photos of Courteney Cox on the set as Gale Weathers. (The “it’s really happening” post was made in March, so I’m a little late to the party realizing Scream 5 happening isn’t exactly breaking news.)
