The skies were overcast as we docked in Saguenay on September 14, 2010, but it did not make for a gloomy backdrop. The locals wouldn’t let it.

Here are some images, both video and pictures, of this charming community where it’s rumored that about now, in the depths of winter, ghosts and mummies roam.

BIENVENUE AUX CROISIÉRISTES

These signs were everywhere in Saguenay. This one was in front of a church.

Of the nine ports we visited on our Canada/New England cruise, hands down Saguenay greeted us with the warmest welcome. There were people dressed in period and native garb singing and dancing and handing out free maple treats and slices of fresh baked blueberry pie. The people of Saguenay seemed really happy to have us croisiéristes visiting their port.

I took some video trying to capture it. (Keyword being “try.” These videos are yet another reminder I have a lot to learn when it comes to camera handling techniques.)

The free slices of blueberry pie they were handing out smelled divine!

Many of the houses were covered in seasonal flowers like this one. Made for a pretty sight.

OMG, Jack. THANK YOU! You just made my whole day! I’m forever trying to take good pictures and be like my heroes Jessica from Ghost Stories and Haunted Places and Julie from Above the Norm so I’m taking your compliment as a BIG ONE! lol I love old towns too, btw. Have you been to Quebec City? I will be sharing pics from there soon. OMG! J’aime Quebec City! I don’t know if the effect it had on me is like the effect people talk of when visiting Paris, but WHOA! It blew me away.

Thanks for the comment. Sorry for the novella of a reply..

What about trains? We met a lot of people on this last cruise in particular who didn’t like to fly so they went by rail. And some were then going by train to do more traveling to various cities, which sounded awesome to me! (That’d be a way to see places without the boats or planes…Hmmm, now you got me wondering if there are any train kind of cruise lines. That’d be cool!)

OMG, Jack! Your comments just keep getting better and better! THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I love the way you think/look at life. But now you’ve got me insanely curious…which movies were you in? (I auditioned for one once myself. GREAT experience. Made it through 2 call backs but my dancing left a little to be desired so…no go. It was for Annie. The one back in the early 80s. I auditioned for the part of Molly. But never pursued it after that.)

  4. Wow! What a fun looking place. Your pictures are amazing. I love the churches and the old time clothes!

What? Two compliments in one day? (Well, two meaning from you, Jessica. On this post and my Parthenon post. 3 when I count in Jack’s!) THANKS! I love architecture and churches seem to often have the best. I was excited I found a couple here to take photos of.

OMG! That’s so cool! I know all of those movies. And I remember Hard Rain and them talking about why they went with that name. You jogged a memory of me watching some interview with one of the people in the movie. (Was Christian Slater in it? I want to say it was him talking about it.) Anyway…NEAT! How exciting!

OMG! That is so funny, Jack. Or is that an example of irony? (I always think I know what irony is, but then I’m always shy about labeling it as such.)

Hehehehehe. Oh, and I’m impressed you went to look it up in the dictionary. And, hey, now you and your sister can take a stroll down memory lane….It would be interesting to know what she thought of the experience. Sure would’ve been neat had you been in it!

Hey Jack! Way cool! I love that you remembered to come back and tell me what you found out from your sister, even though it wasn’t much. (Also liked how you teased her. HILARIOUS!!!! Typical little brother…;)
