Shadowlands Haunted Places: Harmful?

One of the first haunted places indexing sites I ever learned of was Shadowlands. I’m not going to link directly to it because of some disturbing info I came across today. I don’t want to be responsible for anyone’s computer possibly becoming haunted by…? That’s the question. I don’t know what. Let me explain…

I stumbled upon this disturbing find when I Googled “haunted places.” I don’t even remember why I was doing that now. What came up distracted me enough I dropped whatever I had been planning to search for.

Instead, I did a print screen capture to document what I’d found. Which was a warning of sorts. Apparently something on the Shadowlands site is not kosher. Something on it may be harmful to your computer.

Unfortunately, when I tried to find out why Google attributes such a warning to the site, I got a “Page Not Available/We’re sorry, but the information you’ve requested cannot be found. ” message.

As William Collins has often pointed out (see In Search of a Paranormal Website (One Paranormal Website at a Time) and In Search of a Haunted House Database: One Paranormal Researcher’s Rant), Shadowlands Haunted Places listing has great intentions. However, it often falls short. Information is often inaccurate or incomplete, and in some cases it’s just plain false and erroneous.

I know bad info can certainly be harmful, but I’m thinking that’s not why the harmful warning shows up when Shadowlands Haunted Places does.

Anyway, just beware if you’re ever on it and suddenly your computer starts acting a little possessed or something.

Also, if you do visit it to research a haunted place you’re interested in, be sure to cross-reference any info you find there with some of the other haunted places lists out there. I dig what Shadowlands initially set out to accomplish, but not all of their info is good. It’s someplace I often start when I’m researching a place’s haunts, but it’s not the only source I depend on.

  1. Thanks for the warning. I don’t use their information anymore and haven’t for a long time.

Hi Adsila! Thx for the comment. I apparently haven’t gone on their site in a while, or this warning is new. I hadn’t seen it until the other day when I stumbled on it. (Someone on FB said they went to the site directly and their browser popped up with a warning. So I’m thinking if I had gone there hopefully my browser would’ve warned me too.) Looks like it might be a good thing you haven’t gone there in a while! LOL

  3. Thx for the warning re: Shadowlands website. Never tripped across it,so have no knowledge of it personally. However, I DO know that spirits can manipulate electronic data. On a clear spring day I parked under some dense trees & knowing the canopy would block the XM radio & cause static, I shut the XM OFF before i pulled intothe space. Clearly remember this b/c there was one of my fav tunes on & didn’t want to shut it down, but did. Returned to car & hopped in, quick glance & saw another car waiting for the space so I scooted out & away. In the clear, blue sky overhead, I looked at the XM unit to turn it on & saw a msg. crawl coming from the lower left hand corner in lower case letters: “hi mom”. Odd – thought maybe someone at XM fooling around but then realized the unit was still OFF & when on, the crawl ALWAYS came from upper Right corner in caps. Then it hit me: March 2, the day many years before that my only child, Ethan, was killed in a MVA. Ethan loved techie stuff & had a sly, loving sense of humor. This sort of thing has happened before, sight, sound, touch, etc. & doesn’t bother me, but electronic transmission? This time it rattled me so I zipped to my sister’s house for a nice cup of chamomile tea. Point is – spirits CAN manipulate electronic data & Shadowlands site may have more than what you see. Listen to your instincts; I wouldn’t go to that site!

I, too, believe they can manipulate electronics to some extent to reach us. I love this story about your son. So very sorry for your loss, though. Thanks for the comment!
