Remember back in the day when ushers at movie theaters used to direct you to your seat with the aid of a flashlight? (Well, maybe some of you won’t. I really don’t. I think they’d done away with such courtesy by the time I started going to movies. But I’ve seen it in scenes from movies, so…that’s what I’m referring to!)
At any rate, I bet none of those ushers had as slick a flashlight as this black light UV one. It illuminates all sorts of things besides just your way through the dark. We’re talking everything from urine, vomit, and bodily fluids to invisible inks, fingerprints, and pest detection. Right on!
I thought it’d be a handy tool for either paranormal investigators or anyone who travels a lot. (You can use it to see for yourself just how clean your hotel room is –or isn’t, as the case may be!)
If you’d like to win it, here’s what you have to do:

SOME OF MY FAVORITE HORROR MOVIES
Since you’re telling me yours, I’ll share some of my faves with you. My list includes, but is not limited to:
- Tremors (This one’s just fun! I watch it when I want a laugh. Love both Reba and Kevin Bacon’s characters.)
- House of Wax (Full Screen Edition) (Given Mommy D’s comment on the zombie cocktail giveaway, she might appreciate that Paris gets whacked in this one. I just sort of like it for some weird reason. It’s not the best horror film, but it satisfies my horror craving sometimes.)
- Shaun of the Dead (I have yet to not LOL when watching this movie. And I’ve seen it a gazillon times so far…)
- Dawn of the Dead (Widescreen Unrated Director’s Cut) (I’d want to get stuck with Ving Rhames if I was stuck with other Z survivors!)
- Ghost Ship [Blu-ray] (A lot of people didn’t like this, but the opening scenes get my vote for most disturbing of any movie I’ve ever seen. And I liked the Ferryman aspect to it. I found it a rather clever horror movie.)
- Scream (Dimension Collector’s Series) (I ditched work when this came out and was so happy I played hookie to see it. I thought it was smart, sassy, and scary. It’ll always be one of my faves.)
- A Nightmare on Elm Street [Blu-ray] (A friend gave me a play-by-play of this movie in Study Hall sophomore year of high school. She saw it in the theaters. I had to wait and rent it. Both her play-by-play and the movie creeped me out. Now I sort of just laugh at it, but it brings back good memories of my horror movie coming of age.)
- The Shining (I remember being in the basement of my cousin’s house when I saw a commercial for this on TV. I was about 10. I ended up having nightmares that night. I didn’t see the actual movie until years later, but I of course loved it. The scene where Scatman Crothers is driving from the airport to rescue Danny is now a sentimental fave. The guys on the radio that’s playing as he drives are DJs my mom listened to. I grew up, literally, with them on in the evenings when she picked me up from school and drove me home after she got off work. Brings back lots of memories in just that small sound bite…)
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Oh this would be awesome to win! I know a little witch who would nuts, lol!
ON favorite movies.. Shining is one of my favorites, because I love Stephen King, and this movie caught the exact atmosphere from the book!
Thanks for this giveaway! I’ll remmber to come back tomorrow with another favorite! 😉
Kisses from Nydia.
Phantasm – my parents made me watch it when I was young, I’ll never forget it 🙂
My first horror movie was Invasion of the Body Snatchers, with Donald Shuterland, when I was 9. I’ll never forget it!
Poltergeist! How to forget that TV??? I soent some weeks withut looking at mine when it was turned off, lol!
An American Werewolf in London. I was 13 and I slept at my sister’s to kep her company while her hubby was away in a work travel, and she was pregnant. She spent the whole movie sleeping while I was curled up like a ball, frozen!
Nosferatu, with Klaus Kinski. What a terrible vampire!
A Nightmare on Elm Street, the first and only for me. I just loved the idea of having to be awaken not to die. Creepy! The franchise became so bad for me.
Frankenstein, with Boris Karloff, no one can beat him!
Cat People (the first, from the 40’s) was very good on its bizarre way. And I really loved the remake with Nastassja Kinski.
Alien! Oh I watched it by myself on the theater and it was a comotion inside!
Of course, Witchfinder General, with Vincent Price. intense, sad, cult!
Night of the Living Dead! Romero’s at his best.
Rosemary’s Baby… What a super terrifying movie! I’ll nevr forget that.
Carrie. That blood shower scene is one of the most horrible moments of th century… Those Spacek’s eyes…
I adored Interview with the Vampire, I always loved Anne Rice’s novels, and this bacema such a great version (even tom Cruise was great!).
lmao!! Became, not bacema!!! lol That was the worst mispelling ever!
Salem’s Lot… gotta love those Vampire mini-series…
Another fave, Night of the Demons… I had nightmares about that one for weeks.
Night of the Living Dead and of course other Romero zombie flicks… but the classic one was definitely the best…
and last but not least, the Evil Dead. I am really an 80’s gal who loved 80’s horror flicks!
#1 is of course The Amityville Horror. I just love movies that have the history and are based on real life events
I loved the original “The Wolf Man” from 1941, starring Lon Chaney, Jr., especially the little gypsy woman.
