Travel & Leisure named Shocktober the fifth scariest haunted house in the country. But will it be open in 2020? Spoiler alert: yes!
Here’s the information on what Shocktober is, how to attend, and what all it has to offer this year.
A deal so good you could die. Ten hours of terror – straight to your TV. Virtually walkthrough Carlheim Manor and experience Shocktober like never before.
The Arc of Loudoun
The Arc of Loudoun is a non-profit that helps special needs and disabled children and their families in Virginia. Shocktober is the Arc of Loudoun’s biggest fundraiser of the year, so you can imagine how scary the possibility of having to cancel due to COVID-19 was to them.
But in a way, the pandemic may end up making their annual and very popular Halloween event even bigger than ever. And more accessible too.
Carlheim Manor
Shocktober takes place in Leesburg, Virginia’s, historic (and allegedly “truly” haunted) Carlheim Manor. Normally you can walk through and experience all the terror that lurks within in person. This year presents some challenges as we all know.
So like so many other places have done it this year, the best way to make your haunted house safe and comply with social distancing guidelines is to make it virtually accessible.
On October 23, 24, 30, and 31, you can stream two-hours each night “of sheer terror” as either a celebrity guide takes you through the mansion or you do a “your turn walkthrough” (available Halloween night, October 31, only).
The Nights and Celebrities
On Friday, October 23 you can jaunt through all three-stories of the manor with actress, singer, and dancer Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray). Will she be able to make it all the way through?
On Saturday, October 24 you can join Nick Groff as he explores Carlheim Manor and its infamous basement, the Well of Souls. Will Nick just be experiencing the haunt or will he be investigating too? It looks like he’ll just be walking through for his night, however there is a bonus ghost hunt available with the purchase of all four nights. (See “Ticket Options & Prices” below for more details.)
A third as-yet-TBA celebrity guest is slated to take viewers through the mansion on Friday, October 30. (When I find out who it is I’ll be sure to come back and update this.)
Then, on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, this two-hour episode gives visitors a first-person walkthrough (or “scare-through”) of the manor’s history and horrors.
Shocktober Ticket Options & Prices
Each Livestream ticket purchased grants access to the two-hour live episode for whatever night you purchased a ticket for. However, if you want to watch it again, you can! Episodes never expire.
Each tour costs $10, but the best deal is a bargain one that includes all four episodes plus a bonus ghost hunt episode that starts at $25.
You can also purchase the Keeler Hunt Ghost Hunt bonus episode separately in which the paranormal investigators of the Keeler Hunt team share the history and first-hand accounts as they guide you through each room of the house. It also costs $10.
I should clarify that prices are based on the number of viewers. Individual tickets start at $10 for one person. Party packs for 10-49 viewers cost $50 but include the bonus episode.
The all four nights with bonus episode starts at $25 for one person, $100 for 10 viewers, $250 for 50-99 viewers, and it continues on up from there.
How to Watch
All episodes will be available on multiple devices, including iPhone, Apple TV, Android, Android TV, Roku, Fire TV, through Vidi Space.

Check-In
Are you a bawk-bawk chicken butt like me who can’t handle Halloween haunted houses? Do you think you could a virtual one like Shocktober is offering?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
