Move over, Jigsaw. Soul Mates is introducing a new diabolical, twisted villain: the Matchmaker.
“Sign up for Soul Mates before the walls of loneliness close in on you,” he says in the movie’s trailer.
And he’s not kidding. It’s not long before the walls literally start closing in on the two strangers who have woken up handcuffed together.
I don’t know from personal experience, but single friends have shared some pretty wild dating app horror stories. Luckily, they survived all of their misadventures. I’m not sure the dating app users in the trailer for Soul Mates will be able to say the same thing. It may portray one of the scariest dating app ideas yet.
Apparently, they agreed to find love the Soul Mates way. Were the details of how that would work in the fine print—and they didn’t read it? Because the next thing they know, they’re waking up in a strange room with black hoods over their heads and no memory of how they got there.
To make matters even worse, they’re handcuffed to a stranger lying on the bed next to them.
The woman wakes up first and peels the hood off her potential Prince Charming’s head. Who is he? How did she get there? Does he have something to do with it?
The man soon comes to and tries to convince her not to bash him in the head with a lamp. It’s not long before they find themselves competing in SAW-esque challenges in a game where the grand prize is their lives.

Check-In
Talk about star-crossed lovers, right?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
What a fabulous premise for a horror movie!
I forgot it also looks like an escape room. Wow. That date really does have it all! LOL But it does look like a novel premise for a horror movie for sure.
