Have you ever wondered, or maybe fantasized, what it’d be like to spend the night in a Spirit Halloween store? What happens after hours? Does any of the merchandise come alive? Well, it’s about to in a new movie featuring the chain. Spirit Halloween: The Movie releases on VOD on October 11.
Spirit Halloween is one of my favorite places to shop —or at least browse during the scariest season of the year. That’s why it’s one of HJ’s affiliates. I always get a kick out seeing what new animatronics they’ve come up with.
Like this year, they have a 3 ft Bag O’Bones animatronic that Smalls is head-over-heels cuckoo crazy about. Me too, for that matter. We may have to break down and add it to our collection.
But the 6 ft Monty animatronic also caught his eye. Sadly, I already broke the bad news to him that he can keep on dreaming. One, and most importantly, at $300, it’s out of our price range. Two, where would we store it? We don’t have any spare room. And, three, and most importantly, are you ‘effing kidding me, Smalls? A little clapping monkey is creepy enough but I can at least throw that if it came to life. But a six-foot-tall one? That’d be like my Laughing Sal nightmare. Nope. Nuh uh. No can do, babaloo.
But they also have some pretty groovy (and non-nightmare-inducing) new non-animatronic merch this year too, such as a Light-Up Beetlejuice journal, a Beetlejuice Sandworm Groundbreaker, and Hocus Pocus door panels and a journal.
They also have a lot of great smaller items, like pins, patches, and magnets for a lot of popular movies and TV shows, including Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, Scream, the Addams Family, and Stranger Things. And don’t even get me started on all of their great Haunted Mansion merch.
Spoeaking of merchandise, a ton of some of their most popular and well known is on display in the trailer, which is included below. Let’s take a look at that, what the movie is about and who’s in it.
Spirit Halloween: the Movie Synopsis

Check-In
Did you spot any of your favorite Spirit Halloween merchandise in the trailer? Maybe even some things you’ve purchased to decorate your home with for the holiday?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
That’s an exciting trailer! We’re not big seasonal decorators (kinda minimalists that way), but there does seem to be a lot of cool decor items in the trailer.
Being minimalist is something I envy. Wayne is by nature. Then he married me, pack rat. And as we’ve stayed in this house so long now, and our finances improved to where I could splurge on decorations, sometimes I splurged too much. Now one whole room and 1/2 he garage is just Christmas and Halloween decorations. It’s shameful. And this year I’m getting rid of a bunch of it to not only clean up space but because the other thing I didn’t appreciate until I had to start doing it was how much time it all takes to set up. LOL
Anyway, I was excited about the trailer too. Looks like a cute fun movie.
