First Matthew “Matty” Roberts proposed a Storm Area 51 movement. Mostly as a joke, but as we know it caught fire to become one of summer 2019’s viral news stories.
The Storm Area 51 event was supposed to take place on September 20, 2019 in Amargosa Valley, Nevada from 3-6 a.m. There was a Facebook event and even a website.
Well, there’s still a “Storm Area 51: They Can’t Stop All of Us” Facebook event and website, but none of the original information is on it anymore.
Changes to Facebook Event
I wish I’d paid better attention to the Facebook event details, because they have since changed.
First of all, whoever first hosted it has changed their name. I think. I’m not 100% positive about that, but I’m pretty sure I would’ve remembered a page called “Shitposting cause im in a shambles.” (The original was also something kitschy like that, though.)
There’s also two other hosts (whereas before I’m sure it was just one): SmyleeKun and The Hidden Sound.
Instead of one day it’s now September 20-22, 2019.
And instead of Amargosa Valley, the location is now just “Extraterrestrial Highway.”
The details are also different, but still include a link to the Storm Area 51 website.
Storm Area 51 Leads to Alienstock
“Something big is coming…”
That’s the message that first greets you when you visit the Storm Area 51 website. Underneath that is a section about “Alienstock Festival.”
Join us September 20th for a weekend full of camping, music, & arts! Click Here for More information.
Then there’s a “Learn More” button that will take you to the Alienstock Festival website.
Alienstock
Now Stormers are encouraged to gather in the closest town to Area 51 –Rachel, Nevada– on September 20-22, 2019 for the Alienstock Festival.
Early arrivals will be welcome on September 19. Also, they’re encouraging people to stay on the 23rd to help clean up after.
It’s going to be a party in the desert for alien believers and enthusiasts, but there’s no mention of storming Area 51 anymore.
Instead, it’ll be three days of camping and music, art installations and surprise performances.
Little A’Le’Inn
With less than 100 residents, there’s not much in Rachel, Nevada. But there is the Little A’Le’Inn. They’ve set up an Alien Stock Facebook event page with info about purchasing event parking.
It appears the Little A’Le’Inn will be the hub for the happening. Campers will park on the land surrounding the food and lodging establishment.
Alienstock Backup Page
There’s also another Facebook event set up by the same three who are now listed as hosts on the Storm Area 51 page called the Alienstock Backup Page.
Only 556 have indicated they’re going, as compared to the two million on the Storm Area 51 event. Clearly the message hasn’t gotten out yet that Storm Area 51 is cancelled. Or, rather, replaced by Alienstock. It’ll be interesting to see what happens on September 20th…
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Ohhh, “Alienstock” like “Woodstock,” this being the 50th anniversary of WS. I finally get it.:-)
Thx for cluing me in because I didn’t get that connection!!!! lol Clever!
