Portland? As in Oregon? How can it be the Ghostbusters Firehouse if it’s not in New York?
That’s what fans of the classic Ghostbusters movie released in 1984 might wonder. After all, the Ghostbusters Firehouse is one of the most Googled original Ghostbusters movie locations. The exterior of the real-life Hook & Ladder Company 8 in lower Manhattan is popular with set-jetting tourists. Even almost 40 years later, fans are eager to pose in front of the iconic firehouse exterior that served as ghostbusting headquarters in the movie.
However, as The Oregonian/Oregon Live reported, the 1900s three-story two-bedroom firehouse in Portland “has been completely Ghostbustersafied.” One glance, and you’d be hard-pressed to distinguish it from the real location.
Okay, you could. It is wider, the brick is different and so is the garage door. However, you’d know instantly what it was replicating.
And unlike its counterpart in New York, you’ll soon be able to book (or boo-k) a stay at the Ghostbusters Firehouse in Portland. But is it only a one-time thing for Halloween, or is it a permanent new vacation rental listing?
Sadly it’s just a one-time thing. At least this year. Maybe they’ll do it again in the future? Maybe not just around Halloween but also for one, or both, of the Ghostbuster Days that happen each year?
I don’t know, but here’s what you need to know about trying to book it this year.

About the Ghostbusters Firehouse in Portland
As stated above, the two-bedroom, three-story firehouse was built in the early 1900s. It includes all the comforts of any home, including a full kitchen and multiple living quarters.
Except of course it also contains cool Ghostbusters features, such as a scientist-approved Ghost Containment System and a Dark Room where guests can develop and analyze photos of the Scourge of Carpathia. There are also other familiar components fans will recognize from the movie, such as Janine’s desk and the iconic Ghostbusters suits.
Vacasa’s dedicated local team also makes sure the beds are fresh, expertly cleaning up any Ectoplasm. They also stock the pantry with, what else? StayPuft marshmallows and cheezy crackers! (Unless Slimer gobbles them up first.)
There’s just one house rule: Don’t. Cross. The streams.

Check-In
What would you enjoy most about spending Halloween weekend in the Ghostbusters Firehouse?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I would sit at Janine’s desk and pretend I’m working.:-) What a cool idea for a themed place to stay!
OMG me too!!!! I’d bring one of my wigs and find glasses to try and recreate the look even! lol
