The Hitchhiking Ghosts Masks: Nightmare and Horror Movie Fuel

Could the Hitchhiking Ghosts masks give Scream‘s Ghostface a run for his money? I think so.

Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion Holiday may not have thrilled me, but Spirit Halloween’s Hitchhiking Ghosts masks made up for it. If there weren’t copyright issues, or if Disney went a little darker with its scary movies, I could totally see Ezra, Phineas, and Gus as the lead villains in a slasher movie.

As a general rule, the Hitchhiking Ghosts are more mischievous than troublesome. Or so I thought until I saw those masks. Gus’s isn’t too bad. But Phineas and Ezra’s totally conjured visions of diabolical horror movie villains terrorizing victims.

Spirit Halloween actually had a lot of really great Haunted Mansion items this year. A few months back, I nabbed a few things there was no way I  could pass up, including a Grim Grinning Ghost Post newspaper sign, Beware of Hitchhiking Ghosts tabletop decoration, and the iconic Disney’s The Haunted Mansion sign.

The sign paired perfectly with my ghostly framed couple.

I knew exactly how I wanted to display the ghost and the sign on my bookcase.

However, when I shopped Spirit a few months back, I didn’t see the masks. Were they out yet? I’ll never know. If so, I didn’t notice them.

But on a recent Spirit Halloween shopping scroll, I did. And I may have shrieked out loud a little when I saw the first one, which I want to say was Phineas. But it also might have been Ezra. Either way, I instantly recognized whichever one it was and immediately looked for the other two.

Once I figured out what they were, that is. At first, I thought they were busts or some other sort of decoration. Which I guess they still could be. Who says you have to wear them? A lot of people display masks on their walls.

In fact, I was tempted to buy the trio to do just that. Except, they may haunt my dreams. Besides the architecture of the house itself, the Hitchhiking Ghosts are probably my favorite Haunted Mansion spooks. Just maybe not in this form.

Say you and two friends were going to do a group costume. Which Hitchhiking Ghost would you be: Ezra, Phineas, or Gus?

I’m short like Gus, but also chunky like Phineas, so I guess I’d be one of those. It would depend on if one of my friends was shorter or chunkier than me.

  1. I’m not a very tall person. I’d have to be Gus!

  2. Ezra looks like how I feel right about now! LOL! I saw some travellers yesterday in the green space in front of Walmart and they were travelling with two dogs…and a burro!

Hey, you could be Gus, Willow could be Ezra and I could be Phineas! We’ve got a trio! lol

HA!!! That’s some kind of feels you’ve got going on…the Ezra kind! lol Were they walking with the dogs and the burros or were they traveling in a vehicle?

  5. Thank goodness for Spirit Halloween.
Every other corporate retail operation put their Halloween stuff out too soon and now there’s nothing but Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff out, freshly stocked of course. I am never in the mood to go looking for Halloween fun in August or September, so I find retailers’ impatience to put it out and sell it out deeply frustrating.

Oh Maria, this year I feel your pain. I’m always in the mood to shop for Halloween, though. lol BUT this year while I did do some early shopping, I also was waiting a bit. But by the time I could go looking in early Oct, like you said, it was all gone. And Christmas had already taken over! But you are right. I’ve found myself browsing Spirit for things I might like to add when I haven’t found them elsewhere. It’s been really weird out there this year. And some places that often have good things, have had nothing new. Really weird.
