Move over, Chucky. The Last of Us has also inspired a haunted house at this year’s Universal Orlando Halloween Horror Nights (HHN).
Although, to be fair to the Chucky haunted house, it hasn’t been formally revealed yet. However, it was teased at the end of last year on Halloween Horror Nights’ YouTube channel. But if it really does become a reality, it will be inspired by the hit television series of the same name.
That’s not the case with The Last of Us house. I mean, yes. It’s now been formally revealed. However, while HBO adapted Naughty Dog and PlayStation’s award-winning post-pandemic video into a hit show, the park is bringing the game to life as a haunted house in honor of its 10th anniversary.
The all-new The Last of Us house will open at Universal Orlando Resort beginning Friday, September 1, and at Universal Studios Hollywood beginning Thursday, September 7.
But I’m curious whether it’ll be one of the houses offered on the “Behind the Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour.”
Behind the Screams Tour
Part of the problem is they haven’t announced all the houses yet. But even when they do, do they tell you which ones will be on the tour beforehand?
I don’t know. This is the first year I’ve paid attention to this particular Halloween Horror Nights event add-on. (If you’ve ever attended a Behind the Screams tour and know how they work, please share your experience in the comments!)
Right now, it just offers options to buy tickets for two lights-on haunted house tour options: three houses or six.
Then again, not all of the haunted houses have been revealed for this year yet, either. The Last of Us is really the first. So let’s look at what we know about it so far.
The Last of Us Haunted House at HHN
Here’s what the park said about the haunted house “set in a ravaged civilization, where Infected and hardened survivors run rampant”:
“The Last of Us” haunted houses on both coasts will propel guests into a world of carnage and mayhem as they follow in the footsteps of the game’s protagonists, Joel and Ellie, who endure a brutal journey in a world overtaken by a fungal virus that turns humans into various forms of a new threat known as the Infected. As guests encounter the Infected – Runners, Stalkers and Clickers – along with The Hunters, a band of hostile humans, they will need to navigate the Pittsburgh Quarantine Zone, including iconic locations from the video game such as the creepy and desolate The Hotel Grand and a labyrinth of dark and dank tunnels, in a desperate attempt to escape and survive.

Would you rather walk through a Chucky-inspired haunted house or one based on The Last of Us? (Basically, would you rather brave a haunted doll or zombie-like mutants? And, as always, “both” is an option.)
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
