I sort of have a thing for macabre museums, which is why a post from Bloody Disgusting about the Long Island Monster Gallery, a horror movie museum, caught my eye. Was the Mineola, New York, museum something similar to Distortions Monster World in Denver?

Yes and no. They’re both immersive galleries showcasing life-sized replicas from famous horror movies and Halloween characters. However, Distortions is open every day, the Long Island Monster Gallery’s schedule is limited to certain dates during Spooky Season.

Let’s explore this spooktacular-looking place more!

The Long Island Monster Gallery’s Welcome Message to Mortals

Their “Welcome Mortals” message on their home page pretty much sums up in two paragraphs what the gallery is all about. And since it’s so perfectly worded, I’m just going to share that:

The Monster Gallery is Long Island’s newest and only gallery dedicated to the world of horror. Located in Mineola, New York, this cinematic movie gallery features two floors of life-size monster replicas handmade by artists around the world. Once you step inside, you will be immersed by theatrical sets, lighting and sound. Full-scale monsters, vampires, werewolves, ghosts and more await those brave enough to come visit this gallery of nightmares!

This is not a haunted house but an elaborate art gallery intended to preserve Hollywood’s most thrilling monster movies. Opening September 2021, The Long Island Monster Gallery is sure to provide a spooky evening for families and friends. For those of you horror collectors… the artwork is for sale!

Venturing Inside the Long Island Monster Gallery

This is the other way it’s similar to Distortions Monster World. Admissions are timed-entry.

But whereas you’ll still have plenty of time to enjoy DMW if you’re a little late, being late will decrease the length of your experience at the Monster Gallery, which typically lasts 45 minutes.

However, also like DMW, you’re not only welcome but encouraged to take as many photos as you like once inside!

The Long Island Monster Gallery’s Schedule

They first opened their doors on Saturday, September 18. They’ll be open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in October until October 31.

The Long Island Monster Gallery Cost

Tickets cost $25 per person for ages 12+, $20 for ages 5-11. It’s free for children four and under.

Are you a shutterbug when you go places that allow picture taking?

I’m a shutterbug everywhere I go but I especially love discovering places like this Monster Gallery!

  1. I bet this is a fabulous collection of monsters. I am not a shutterbug. I guess I’m not that visual. I like to experience and remember in my mind rather than in photos.

  2. Author

My friend Tracie is like that. I think my obsession stems from feeling a lack as a kid. We never really could afford film but now that everything is digital… I got cuckoo crazy! lol (But I also think it helps me remember. Chemo stole a few memories. Luckily we had photos so my hub could show me we had in fact been certain places that I’d forgotten about!)
