I was trying to get the jump on the day by writing about Friday the 13th events earlier in the week. Of course once Friday the 13th hit, I discovered three other noteworthy events to share.
- “Ghost Tails” Charity Dog Walk & Ghost Tour – I received an “Eerie E-vite” about this Friday the 13th event, which benefits the Naperville Area Humane Society. Love animals, and love when ghost lovers come together to support causes. Wish I lived closer to try and make this one. I’d totally take Murph because they allow dogs on the ghost tour!
- The Haunted Hotel Comic-Con Special Opening – Not only will it be open tonight for Friday the 13th, but also for Saturday the 14th. A little Halloween haunted house action in July. Nice.
- Spirit “Slashing Sale” – Spirit Halloween is offering 13% off one item with the purchase of $70 or more. Enter code JULY13 at checkout.
Spirit is one of my favorite online Halloween shopping destinations. (Guess it’s also a good time to make a disclaimer that I participate in their affiliate marketing program. But even if I didn’t, I’d still promote their stuff. They have some of the most unique and fun costumes and decorations around.)

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I’m always happy when I get through Friday the 13th in one piece. I’m just a tad superstitious.
Looking at all the offerings for sale takes me back to my dragonboat coach who would have loved those handcuff earrings. I can hardly wait to see what you come up with for Halloween.
