A masked slasher, time travel, and comedy. Kiernan Shipka finds herself transported from the present day back to 1987 in this Totally Killer horror movie that premieres exclusively on Prime Video on October 6.

The film boasts a top-notch ensemble cast. In addition to Shipka (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), the movie stars Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer), Charlie Gillespie (Julie and the Phantoms), Liana Liberato (Scream VI), Troy L. Johnson (Big Sky), Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat), Lochlyn Munro (Freddy vs. Jason), and more.

The trailer (embedded below) looks like a lot of fun. The world has changed a lot since the 80s, and it’s been a while since we’ve had a movie that takes us back in time with a culture-shock comparison shakeup like this.

For instance, there’s a part in the trailer where Julie (Shipka) is talking with Pam (Olivia Holt), a.k.a. the girl who grew up to become her mom.

“Do the machines kill us all?” young Pam asks. (Clearly, Julie must’ve confided her “back-to-the-future” predicament to her.)

“No, they more just rip apart the fabric of our society via dance videos on TikTok,” Julie answers.

“They use dance against us?” Pam asks incredulously.

Basically, young Pam. Basically.

Anyway, if you like horror comedy with a dash of nostalgia (and cultural commentary), Totally Killer looks like it might be rad and totally tubular. Let’s check it out.

Totally Killer Synopsis

Per Prime Video:

Thirty-five years after the shocking murder of three teens, the infamous “Sweet Sixteen Killer“ returns on Halloween night to claim a fourth victim. Seventeen-year-old Jamie (Shipka) ignores her overprotective mom’s (Bowen) warning and comes face-to-face with the masked maniac and, on the run for her life, accidentally time-travels to 1987, the year of the original killings. Forced to navigate the unfamiliar and outrageous culture of the 1980s, Jamie teams up with her teen mom (Holt) to take down the killer once and for all, before she’s stuck in the past forever.
