We knew from the Feb. 14-27 discovery+ and Travel Channel paranormal programming highlights that the documentary that launched Destination Fear would be among the premieres. But now we have a bit more information about Trail to Terror.

Destination Fear: Trail to Terror is a two-hour documentary directed and hosted by Dakota Laden. It starts streaming exclusively on discovery+ on Thursday, Feb. 24 — debuting for the first time on any entertainment platform.

It allows Destination Fear fans to witness the beginning. This is the maiden road trip that kickstarted an insatiable fear-seeking mission.

The genesis for the hit TV series was shot in 2015 and documents Dakota’s inaugural experiment with fear. The result is a harrowing and unforgettable experience that would change their lives forever.

Just like the series fans have come to know and love, in Trail to Terror, Dakota Laden takes his sister, Chelsea Laden, and best friends, Tanner Wiseman and Coalin Smith, on a nail-biting journey to test their limits of fear. His goal: to capture real fear on camera by confronting it head-on.

Challenging the group to the max, Dakota does not tell anyone where they are going, only that they will be sleeping alone for five consecutive nights in five of the most haunted locations in America. What starts out as a unique experiment and RV trip with friends turns into a real-life horror movie, one that still haunts them to this day.

Trail to Terror is my most personal project,” said Dakota. “It’s my first-ever documentary and the seed that would eventually grow into Destination Fear. It ignited my passion for filmmaking and exploring the paranormal. None of us anticipated where this road trip would really take us, and I’m excited to finally share the experience and film with everyone.”

  1. I did not know about this documentary or Dakota’s history with it. Sounds terrifying!

  2. Author

It sounds pretty fun and will be interesting to see similarities/differences between it and what DT has become.

  3. Dakota Laden was a contest winner to assist in filiming an episode of Ghost Adventures. Zak saw so much enthusiasm in young Dakota that he brought him on full time. Zak helped him perpetuate and launch this special, so all of Dakota’s success can be attributed to Zak Bagans. Without him, he would probably be working at McDonald’s.

Looks like maybe Zak has a reverse-cruse for all those he comes in contact with…they’ll be golden after working with him too.
